The Moral Decay alliance started to play in the alliance server for the first time in reset ending in November 1998. The alliance was formed by several MUD players from the popular Moral Decay MUD Official site. Early in MDs life they rose to the top by excellent war performance, eventually becoming the best alliance in the game and dominating the alliance server. After this MD mostly ranked amongst the top alliances in the game, though have lost some influence and strength in the past years.
Moral Decay traditionally favors war over netgaining.
MD in Earth Empires
Reunion reset
On Friday May 20th 2011 at 10:36 CET Anticimex posted on the MD facebook group requesting any archive information former MDers had regarding MDs time in Earth 2025. This was prompted after Anticimex had read an article which featured a photograph of someone that reminded him of Samoan, one of MDs founders. At the time of this posting the MD facebook group had about 28 MDers on it and was not actively used at all.
After Anticimex' post a sudden surge of activity of MD activity started, and not long after on Saturday May 21st 2011 at 18:16 CET, Bombay posted a short message saying 'Reunion set?'. This was something many MDers saw as an awesome idea. Quickly various MDers started to search for other old MDers to add them to the facebook group and plans started to be made for this reunion reset.
The boxcar site of MD was taken into use again and dusted off. Quickly the MD facebook group grew to over 70 members, recording 72 members on Friday May 27th 2011, 16:19 CET and 85 members on Friday June 10th 20:50 CET.
On the 10th of June 66 MDers have tagged up and MD is the biggest alliance in the game in members and networth. The activity is very high and leadership has been establish.
After about 18 months MD has returned to Earth with a very good showing!
Introduction of councils
Moral Decay has always been a republic alliance that elects it's president. However times have changes and it was time for MD to change the way it choses it's leader as well. It was recognized that the MD of today is vastly different from the MD in early 2000. The players themselves had changed, they were adults now with busy lives. Having a singular president who had to run an election every few months did not fit well with the build up of MD's member base.
To make MD leadership more suitable for the new situation it was decided to take on a council system. The council system meant that the various important departments (Internal Affairs, Foreign affairs and the Presidential office) of MD would work as a council. Multiple people responsible for the same work, with equal say. MD would now have three presidents instead of one. And no longer would elections decide who was president, but the current presidents would decide who would follow up a departing president. In MD's eyes this fit their new reality better.
Presidential elections
Moral Decay in it's core is a republic alliance, which meant their president used to be chosen by means of elections. However with the introduction of the presidential council in June 2011 the election system was made obsolete. So the following is for reference only. At first elections took place every reset (i.e., every 90 days), but when earth resets where shortened this period was adapted to once every 2 resets (i.e., every 120 days). Every member with the rank of veteran of higher may run for president. Once all candidates are known a Q&A session is held, each veteran member or higher is allowed to ask the presidential candidates questions, which must then be answered. Once the Q & A sessions have ended it is time to vote, every member with the rank of veteran or higher is given 1 vote which he may cast upon his presidential candidate of choice. After a few days the new president of MD is known and some time is left to make the transition from the old president to the new president as smooth as possible.
Special teams
Raiders
As any alliance Moral Decay has to deal with random hostile countries whom attack the alliance. To easily dispatch these enemy nations the [Munchkin Raiders] where founded. It was renamed to honor our fallen brother Flank to Flankin Raiders. Ussually the raiders would be about 10 to 15 players large. The raiders job was to keep MDs enemy list in peacetime clean of enemies, while still performing their regular duties in their own division. Each raider was still expected to finish with the best country possible, as MD expected nothing but the best. This allowed other MDers to continue to build their countries without having to worry too much about random enemies, in the end MD became a stronger alliance due to this team effort. The raiders therefore wasn't a seperate division, but a cross-division team. Each reset this team was reformed allowing some veteran raiders to stay without question, while newer MDers joined the raiders team to get a taste of what it meant to be a raider.
Assassins
The assassins was a special team founded to get the upper hand in land exchanges that often happen between alliances. For political reasons MD and other alliances would sometimes not have any official relations, resulting in countries of both alliances attacking each other for land.
Assassins are MD players whom play countries with a special setup, ussually MD would have an assassin team of about 3 to 5 players. Their countries were all landthin, very offense heavy and low in networth. This setup allowed them to perform their tasks with the best possible result.
The tasks performed by the assassins are two-fold. Sometimes they were used to topfeed target countries, and sometimes they were used to retaliate grabs made against MD countries. These tasks are very different and it is vital they never mix to avoid quickly escalating situations.
When topfeeding the assassin would landgrab a country within the target alliance whom had the most land. Because the assassin carried a lot of offensive military, and was inter-allied with the other assassin countries, it ussually was not a problem to penetrate the target country defenses. By being very landthin and low(er) in networth as compared to the target country the game would give a bonus in land gained from the attack, allowing the assassins to gain even more land. Immediately after the attack the assassin country drops all gained acres to remain landthin, and this also ensures that when the target country attacked back (only 1 retal within 72 hours was commonly accepted) not a lot of land would be gained back, ensuring MD would come out on top in the land exchange. The topfeeding tactic was used as a(n) (aggressive) political pressure device to force the target alliance into signing an official pact with MD for example.
When performing retaliation attacks the assassin can be seen as an extension of regular MD countries. When a MD country was attacked for land, but not able (or allowed to by the leaders of MD) to retaliate, an assassin took the retaliation hit. By letting the assassin take the retaliation hit MD ensured that it would gain the largest amount of land back from the aggressor country. To ensure the 'victim' MD country gained his land back, he was allowed to farm the assassin country for the acres he lost. The retaliation mode was a passive-aggresive political pressure device used to make the target alliance realize it was futile to start a landwar with MD, as MD would come out on top every single time.
Intra alliance farming was not something that was widely used when MD first used the assassins and was somewhat controversial. However by ensuring the retaliation mode of assassins never mixed with the topfeeding mode of the assassins MD was able to maintain such a team, as farming the assassin country after it made a topfeed was not widely accepted and would quickly escalate a situation.
Spy team
Each reset MD would have several players play countries built to perform effective spy operations, so that in times of war we had an effective tool to gain detailed country information regarding a hostile alliance. The unique aspect to MD's spy team was that they did not play under the MD tag, but rather under fake tags. This allowed the countries to perform spy operations without fear of them being linked to MD, if they happened to fail a spy operation. This tactic gave MD a little bit more of an edge when about to strike a target alliance, by hiding the approach. It also allowed MD to gather information anonymously when only the threat of war was on the horizon.
An interesting detail is that the spy teams existance was kept as secret as possible, most MD members did not know that it existed and the current MDers playing spy nations were kept an even bigger secret. The less people knew, the better they could perform their tasks.

History
MD's history keeping was extremely well done the first few resets of it's existence, each reset MD played as an alliance in earth 2025 was written down as a chapter.
Membership overview throughout the resets
By searching through all of Swirve's records, the following overview was generated showing how MD's membership evolved over time. The Titans and Saints alliances are also mentioned in this overview as both alliances were split offs (though short-lived) from the MD alliance. MD's membership decline in the last few years should be seen in context, as the game Earth: 2025 was becoming less and less popular; making membership numbers a difficult challenge to maintain.
To put the membership numbers into perspective, an overview of the number of total players in the alliance server MD was playing at that time. This data is retrieved from Swirve records.
Presidents of Moral Decay
Over the course of time MD has been led by various presidents, each president working his or her hardest to ensure MD achieved it goals. Each president brought his or her own qualities to the alliance and used those qualities to lead and guide MD. Being the president of MD is a difficult job, it is very time consuming and can be frustrating at times. However it is not without it's reward, as president you get to lead one of the finest groups of people out there, you'll have their dedication, loyalty and perhaps most rewarding their friendship.

In 2004 Mehul changed the length of each reset to 2 month for a reset. Before this change each reset lasted about 2.6 months. The reset ending in March 2004 was the first 2 month reset. The following table shows how many resets and months each president served for MD, these numbers are rounded off. When two presidents serve in the same reset it is assumed each president was president for 50% of the reset. Exceptions are Samoan's 12 hour presidency in August of 2000 and Kalick's 2 day presidency in July of 2002.

Prehistory
During the summer of 1992 two friends, Brapnor and Exedore, were tinkering around with the idea of creating their own MUD in order to have a place where coders (also known as wizards) could improve upon their work and further their programming skills. They were veterans of several MUDs and had a distinct vision for their own game. Instead of being a straight "hack n' slash" style MUD" they wanted something for players to do between kills to heighten the roleplaying experience and create a more immersive environment. This was achieved through the establishment of player-run businesses, which increased the interactions between players. While in a heated argument over whether or not to allow playerkilling (allow players to kill one another) a fierce argument took place between two of the founding wizards. Exedore was direly for playerkilling and Coreal vehemtly against it. There were many reasons against playerkilling and only a few for it. Coreal stated that the MUD would fall into chaos only weeks after opening it if playerkilling were allowed. Exedore disagreed, and as a tension breaker, blurted out "When the world falls into complete moral decay, don't be so old that you can't enjoy it". The name stuck and the MD MUD was born. Two of the original wizards/coders of the MUD were Molnar and Kimo, who both later went on to play in the first reset of the MD earth alliance.
The early days of the MUD were filled with flocks of college students decending upon the game. Individual playerkillers like Tequila Sunrise, Fatal Justice, Femme Fatale and Alazar terrorized the game. Eventually small groups of players started to band together into alliances for safety. The first amongst these were the Mob (mostly canadian players), members of the Velvet Unicorn, and the Demons. As members of these groups began to graduate from college, many lost their net access (private ISPs were unheard of then). This allowed for new groups to take their place, most notably the Danes and the Hawaiians. These two factions engaged in many bitter wars through the years, along with a third group called Darkside, to form a triumverate of bitter enemies. As the web began to grow in popularity in the mid 90's players started turning toward web-based games and the popularity of MUDs started to fall a bit. Eventually by 1998 most of the hostile atmosphere was gone from the MUD (though some of the participants still remained), decreased by a crackdown on playerkilling by the administration and loss of players to other games. Under a revamped administration many of the original Hawaiians and Danes came back to the MUD. By this time many of them had become friends and were looking for new outlets in which to channel their aggression.
The MD MUD is and always has been a very difficult MUD to start out in. Accompanied with the playerkilling and relative difficulty of achieving new levels, the MUD reflected a certain "survival of the fittest" attitude. Only the smartest, most cunning, and most experienced players tended to stick with the game for the long haul. Those with little dedication played for a short time and left for other easier games. This dedicated core of MUD players, many of them having played for 4-5 years together, would serve as the basis for a new alliance in the game Earth 2025. The skills garnered in the MUD would be directly transferred to Earth 2025, as the elements of fighting/war, business/diplomacy, and sense of communion/alliance in the MUD provided a good starting ground on which to base an alliance which has risen to the top of the game.
Chapter 1: Birth of an Alliance
Tokugawa, one of the longtime players of the MD MUD, started playing Earth 2025 during the summer of 1998. He eventually decided to join MI (Mercenaries Incorporated). With the reset coming to a close, he decided to get other Mudders into the game. Among the first few players were Zuul, Mags, Samoan, Zyn, Baatl, Mathalas, Excelsior, Gimli, and Littlegirl...all of whom remain with the alliance today. During the first few days most of the MUD players playing earth (probably between 15-20 people at this time) did so as individuals.
On the 4th day of the reset a fellow mudders was attacked by another country (there were no tags at the time except for those countries which wore a tag in their country name). Our first webpage was created by a member named Torg so that mudders could upload their own country reports and follow each others' progress (and hopefully learn what worked and what didn't). Upon seeing one of the MDers' countries getting attacked, Torg posted the name of the attacking country on his page, along with its spy report and told the mudders all to attack this country as it "attacked one of our group". At the time, being all newbies, the members did not know that this was just a landgrab and all set about attacking this country by any means possible. This country has later been identified as "United Federation of Atlantica". During the assault on this country, one of the members performed an alliance spy and posted the spy reports of his allies. Fearing that they would attack "our group" also, MDers set up a preemptive strike on this country, named "United Federation of Crush". It was generally agreed upon by the members playing the game that this country should not just be attacked, but be killed. Therefore a plan was set up for all earth players to meet on the mud with a full set of turns prepared to kill the seemingly evil foe. As the players began sending their attacks they would tell the others how many units seemed to break through, and this was passed to the other members of the group. Smaller members waited until the defenses of the enemy country were reduced until they started to hit. The method used to kill this country was through population depletion, one that was found out not to work (due to a bug in earth that would not allow a country's population to fall below 7...however once at 7 population a country was stuck there for the rest of the game due to an additional bug and therefore rendered useless). However, this coordinated attack sent a rush through the many MD earth players, as they focused their hostile energy from the mud into Earth 2025. This was effectively the birth of the MD warchat, and the format has remained much the same to this day.
Many of the MD mud players gained crucial experience in the tournament, with Samoan finishing in the top 10 of his first tourney game and Tokugawa and Hal finishing in the top 20 of theirs. In the tourney Hal and Tokugawa perfected an industrialist strat, while Samoan persued a casher strat. Eventually long days of conversation on the MUD over different strategy variations were relayed to the other members of the small group. Eventually everyone in the group caught on to the fundamentals of the game and began to quickly rise in the ranks. Hal, Samoan, and Tokugawa all rose to the top 100 of the standard A game. Meanwhile, Baatl had grabbed a SOL country twice, leading to his being almost-destroyed by a division of SOL. After messaging one of them to please stop attacking him, he was quickly offered membership in SOL. He gladly accepted the offer of protection, and spent the remainder of the reset playing in SOL. At the end of the reset when he came back to MD, his alliance experience and knowledge of alliance structure and policy proved to be invaluable to the formation of the first policies of the soon-to-be-formed MD.
Having discovered the presence of alliances through Baatl's painful ordeal, the other MD earth players decided to form their own alliance. Reaver, Havok, Zuul, Tokugawa, and Samoan were chosen to be the 5 coleaders of the alliance. Zuul in particular had made significant headway in foreign relations, in effect becoming the first MD diplomat. During a squabble between some of the Danes and some players in TIE, Zuul contacted TIE leadership and achieved a peace. Later, when one of the MD countries was being harassed by a rogue country, Zuul contacted MI (Mercenaries Incorporated) and contracted them to help in killing the offending country. This incident however turned for the worst quickly. MI, finding out that Tokugawa was no longer a member and was now playing in MD, quickly went about destroying his country in an act of revenge. Eventually the dispute was settled and Tokugawa was given another MI country as a replacement. At this point nearly 30 members had become part of the group and it was time to settle on a name for the alliance. Among those tossed out were K.A.O.S. as well as some others, but eventually it was decided that the MUD was the common denominator between the members and MD was chosen for the name.
Zuul then went about attempting to secure relations with the other alliances in the game. Amongst the more receptive alliances was the OOA (Obsidian Order Alliance). Zuul quickly became friends with their minister of war, Tirol. Soon the OOA asked for MD's help in fighting an alliance war. The KoH (Knights of Honor), then lead by Cougar, had a dispute with the Avengers. Cougar convinced the OOA to help fight the Avengers and OOA in turn suggested MD also help out in the battle effort. Interested in strengthening the bond between the OOA and MD, MD's leaders agreed to help and took 5 Avenger targets. After a second successful warchat in which the targets were heavily crippled (having learned that killing was not an effective strategy) many Avengers quickly went into vacation. Later, the UCN help the Avengers exact revenge on KoH (but not MD or OOA, who claimed they had been tricked into attacking Avengers by Cougar). This eventually lead to the temporary breakup of KoH. During this time due to inactivity and a need to centralize the leadership, Tokugawa, Samoan and Zuul were elected the 3 co-heads of MD. Samoan had discovered Wufbam's tournament strategy on the boards and used it to win a mid-level tourney game, while convincing Mags and Aladrin to become MD's first techers in the standard game.
Several other MDers were doing well in the tournament at this point, gaining crucial experience in netgaining. At this point, being a fully organized alliance, a web page with bulletin boards and spy reports was needed. Although the MUD proved more than adequate for member communication, it was agreed that future expansion of the alliance to include non-mudders would eventually require a website to be the center of communication. Zuul, with the help of other Danes including Barbie, produced a website, which still exists at http://www.moral.dk/earth. In order to further centralize the leadership Samoan was elected the main leader of MD. Zuul and Tokugawa were made Vice Presidents and performed the roles of foreign minister and internal minister, respectively. During this time LaF was preparing to go to war with RoCK and SOL, amongst other alliances. In an effort to establish further alliance relations MD agreed to team up with EoS, OOA, and TD in helping fight on the side of LaF. MD ended up attacking and wounding several RoCK top countries before eventually being crushed by forces from SOL, Omega, SG, and RoCK. Samoan and Hal had achieved top 100 rankings before this war, which took place 2-3 weeks before the end of the August reset. Despite being on the losing side of the battle, MD had gained significant experience in battle and insight into the world of alliance politics, as well as gained recognition from several alliances.
Chapter 2: The First RoCK War
This reset was to be the first "official" reset for the MD alliance. The prior round had allowed MD to get a solid foundation in the game politically and organizationally. Samoan was elected President for a second term. Zuul remained the Foreign Minister. Tokugawa was Internal Minister, but switched to War Minister, allowing Mags to move into the position of Internal Minister. During this reset MD decided to tag itself for the first time, all countries bearing an "MD" in their names. To this point almost all of the members had come from the MUD. Ls was the first non-MUD player to join the alliance, having been in MI with Tokugawa during his formative time there. He used his excellent oratory skills to become one of the first (and few) MD posters on Alliance Talk, which was one of the centers for diplomacy and 1A politics. The alliance had grown by the start of the reset to 50 members. A significant portion (~15) of the alliance was from Denmark. This closeness enabled new MD members to share strategies and netgaining advice, paying off with a strong showing at the beginning of the reset. For the first month and a half of the reset it was not uncommon to see up to 15 members in the top 100, with a few top 10 showings as well. OOA was carried over as an ally from the previous reset, and a FDP (Full Defense Pact) was signed with EoS, whom MD had helped during the previous reset at the side of LaF. MD did not sign a FDP with LaF however, as a leadership change (Viper's ascension to Gramberto's leader position) left LaF with a leader not familiar with MD. TMA (The Moon Alliance) had broken away from SOL to form its own alliance during the course of the reset. Their leader, a Dane named Hemmingsen, quickly became friends with Zuul and led to an FDP between TMA and MD. In addition, later in the reset a FDP was signed with TIE, then led by Inferno. This alliance was cemented by the relationship formed in the first reset between Zuul and TIE.
During the opening weeks of the reset, RoCK and MD had several run-ins over landgrab disputes. War between the two sides appeared to be imminent until a serious round of negotiations with RoCK leadership led to an easing of tensions. Other problems also developed during the reset with Ragnorak, who used the cryptic tagging system of the letter 1 and the number e. This made finding Ragnorak countries very difficult with such names as 1esbian 1emmings and Cast1e Ragnarok. Disputes between the two alliances were worked out despite this problem. During the course of the reset MD leadership started to converse and work closely with the leaders of Omega. Omega was entering its second reset, having a solid core of 60-70 members with a number of outstanding netgainers. As the MD and Omega leadership grew closer, talks of a merger began in earnest. Omega leaders began playing the MD MUD and the alliances started to get to know each other better. When issues regarding the seemingly opposing nature of the allies of the two alliances (Omega was part of the Rockfamily, composed of UCN, SOL, TGA, and RoCK while MD's allies were termed the "anti coalition") arose, the two alliances agreed to postpone merger talks and sign an unbreakable NAP (non-agression pact) instead.
During the middle of the reset Obsidian, the former leader of the OOA, was growing tired with being grabbed by MD and attacked Samoan's country with his 5 multies (you've, just, been, whacked, hard). MD then swiftly killed the countries by taking their land. 1 week later the MI alliance began a massive assault on Samoan's country. This was later revealed to be the result of a contract being put out on the country by Obsidian in order to exact revenge. MI sent wave after wave of attacks against Samoan, eventually breaking through his defenses after 3 days of fighting. MD then declared war on MI, and with the help of OOA and EoS killed all MI countries. OOA had been under a significant amount of internal stress at this time, and after this incident the OOA fractured into three seperate entities. Zardoz took part of the OOA and formed the new Wolf's Lair Alliance, with which MD maintained its FDP. Obsidian took several OOA members and headed off to become a new division of TIE. Tirol, Halls, and Insanity were invited to join MD with the rest of their followers, but instead decided to try their hand at creating their own alliance, which turned out to be RAGE. RAGE and MD carried over the FDP which had been property of the OOA.
During January TIE had been experiencing problems with HAN. When this eventually led to a full-out war with HAN, TIE requested help from LaF and MD. Both LaF and MD committed their forces to the aid of TIE striking HAN for 1 day. The next day RoCK declared war on MD (RoCK was allied with HAN) and started its assault on MD countries. A temporary ceasefire was arranged with RoCK after half a day of battle. During the ceasefire period, attacks from RoCK by the Liquid division on MD continued (later attributed to the lack of a RoCK division leader to get instructions out to his division in time). As the attacks continued to come in at a slow pace several MD countries were being spied upon by RoCK countries. Taking this as a sign that RoCK was biding their time for another strike, MD gathered up allies RAGE and TMA (who had received an "errant" note detailing RoCK attack plans from a RoCK country ingame) and planned an attack for the next night. The next evening MDers began assembling on the MUD to participate in the first alliance-wide scale warchat. During the next several hours MD and allies unleashed a ferocious first strike on RoCK, crippling many top RoCK countries. During the attack Omega performed a counterstrike on TMA, effectively disabling them and removing them permanently from the war. RAGE proved to be an incredibly dedicated ally, showing through their intricate spy networth and well-placed missiles that impressive damage could be performed by a fledgeling alliance.
MD's other allies, EoS, were at this time embroiled in conflict with SOL. LaF, which had also been allied to EoS, was now sitting on the sideline as the last member of the "anti-coalition" not involved in a war. EoS, upset that LaF was not coming to its side to help, revoked their FDP with LaF. With pressure mounting for action from within the alliance, Viper stated on Alliance Talk that LaF would enter the war against RoCK unless it ceased fire. After the ceasefire ultimatum was ignored LaF came to MD's side in battle and declared war on RoCK. Gramberto, who had left EoS (after being in LaF) offered to help in the war against RoCK due to the excessive farming of his country by RoCK members. By using some very effective landgrabbing tactics he was able to stave off the repeated attempts of RoCK members to kill him, thus deflecting a significant portion of attacks away from MDers. LaF was not able to focus its attention on RoCK for long. Soon Omega and TGA declared war on LaF on behalf of their FDP RoCK. As LaF turned its attention elsewhere, MD and RAGE continued to put up an impressive fight. A second wave of attacks from MD almost equal to the powerful first strike took its toll on many of the top RoCK countries, which at that point were in disarray after being stunned by the violence of the MD attacks. After 3 days RoCK recovered to begin its own brutal counterassault, levelling the buildings of several MD nations. After a bloody couple of weeks of conflict few countries on either the MD or RoCK side still had buildings intact. Omega, sensing that TGA was doing a fine job of fighting LaF, pulled out of the battle and went on to have several top ranking finishers. Eventually, after both sides realized that fighting over empty land was futile, a peace treaty was signed that remained in effect for the last month of the reset. What had been a brilliant start to the war for MD eventually turned into a deadlock as RoCK's superior numbers proved to be the great equalizer in the fight.
After the war was over however, MD had inflicted more damage on RoCK than vice-versa. MD had proven that it was a force to be reckoned with and had gained a great deal of publicity around Earth for its fighting prowess. The summary of the war, in detail can be viewed here. The remainder of the reset was fairly peaceful. Most players began rebuilding their war-torn countries, with Zyn actually placing in the top 100, becoming MD's first top 100 finisher to date. Merger talks between Omega and MD were officially ended, however the two decided to sign a FDP for the next reset to continue their close relations. The alliance website was moved to rockcorps (hosted by RoCK, a sign that the two sides intended to keep the peace). At this time it was decided that the MUD alone did not offer enough expansion possibilities for the alliance, and that outsiders would be allowed into the alliance on a probationary conditions. Among these members was Nu, who would later go on to become a division leader. During the last month of the reset, LaF also had challenged MD to a 15 on 15 duel in one of the tournament games. Despite having a solid lead in networth by the time of the attack (an LaF strong suit), MD came from way behind to post a victory in this friendly battle through some brilliant tactics by Zuul.
Chapter 3: World War III
Starting off the March 1999 reset, MD's ally base had changed somewhat from previous resets. Bolstered by their fighting performance during the previous reset, they had impressed several alliances and had new requests for FDPs, most notably Omega. EoS and RAGE were also included as FDPs. TMA, which had changed its name to FoE (Federation of Empires) and CWG signed LDPs (Limited Defense Pact) with MD. NLS, now its own alliance after spending a reset as a division of EoS, was one of MD's new FDP partners. Continuing on the theme of opening the alliance up to outsiders, several new members from other alliances joined the ranks of MD. Amongst those were 3D and several of his friends who came over from TIE. Iggie also came over from TIE. Gramberto, who had valiently deflected attacks during the previous resets' war was now in MD under an "assumed name" in order to ease his transition into the alliance and prevent potential problems with foreign relations. Loss (who would later go on to be a division leader) and Absolute from LaF came in to bolster the top rankers. Chaos came from EoS and was instantly one of the top players in the alliance.
Diocletian started his first reset after watching from the sidelines on the MD MUD. MD got off to another fast start with regards to netgaining, again placing several countries in the top 100. The alliance now stood at around 70 members, placing it in the category of a medium-sized alliance relative to others at the time. Around Earth several things had taken place. Omega had left the Rockfamily and ventured out on its own. The powerful alliance known as SG, which had a very strong showing in taking 3 top spots the reset before, vanished without a sight and remains gone until this day.
The reset progressed rather peacefully until a small conflict ignited in a powderkeg of tensions. RAGE and Ragnarok started to have difficulties midway through the server. After several hits on RAGE countries by Ragnorak, RAGE lashed out, throwing its full weight at Ragnorak. Rag quickly called in its allies to help, amongst them TGA, TIE, and SOL. The badly outnumbered RAGE called out to its allies for help, including MD and FoE. FoE started attacks on TIE, killing 3 TIE countries quickly. During this reset the population attack bug had been fixed, allowing countries to be killed through Guerilla Strikes and Bombing Runs. War had changed from that of inflicting damage to straight out killing. MD, in consultation with RAGE, and with help from CWG and DSD decided to launch an attack on TIE. Before the plans were finalized, a possible 2nd attack plan was made for TGA but quickly dismissed. Minutes before the attack on TIE commenced, TGA - acting on rumors from a spy regarding the potential attack, commenced attacks on MD. As MD began its assault on TIE, RoCK struck MD. The attack by RoCK was unexpected due to no formal ties between RoCK and TIE, and was later found to be the result of a post made by one of the MD members on the MD private board that he thought RoCK would make a good target for an eventual war.
MD's first assault on TIE resulted in the death of the top 12 TIE rankers, with Inferno's country going on vacation seconds before also being killed. Now being assaulted by TIE, TGA, and RoCK, MD looked to its allies for support. NLS was in the midst of a reset-long quarrel with Resevoir Dogs, while EoS was plotting for revenge with UCN over a conflict that had occurred earlier in the round. MD turned to Omega for assistance. This request put Omega in an awkward position; during the previous reset they had been allied to RoCK and were now being asked to attack them. Despite this dilemma, Omega fulfilled the FDP and came to the aid of MD in attacking RoCK. MD and Omega trained most of their efforts on RoCK (which was the biggest threat in the war) over the course of the war killed off most of the high and mid-ranking RoCK countries. RoCK, not enjoying the action, called in SOL to hit Omega (as well as TIE). In order to try and stall the MD attack, RoCK also requested HAN attack MD. HAN and SOL reverted to the old style of combat by destroying the buildings of MD and Omega respectively, eventually wearing down the two alliances until they succumbed to the force of the sheer numbers facing them. Omega and MD, fighting a strong fight in the early going, eventually crumbled under the combined might of HAN, RoCK, SOL, TIE, and TGA.
Meanwhile, EoS had decided to unleash an assault on the remaining Rockfamily member, UCN, only to be crushed in the ensuing war. This war effectively spelled the end of EoS as an alliance. MD gained several new members at the end of the reset who came from EoS, among them Haderach, Wipeout, and Bigfoot. Eventually real-life concerns led Samoan away from the MD leadership. He was succeeded by Mags, who helped MD finish out the reset and prepare for the upcoming round. Virtually every large alliance in the game had seen action in war this round, which was forever known as World War III. One of the few exceptions was LaF, which easily dominated the round by following an isolationist foreign policy. The reset left an uncertain future for MD. MD had again fought very well, but this advantage was again outweighed by superior numbers on the opposing side. MD had also lost one of its top allies in EoS.
Chapter 4: Peace on Earth
After a reset of turbulence, MD looked towards its 4th reset as a time in which it needed to stablize its foundation. Three straight resets of fighting had allowed MD to gain tremendous respect towards its fighting ability, but several alliance rankings questioned MD's ability to netgain. MD had always started out the reset in fine form, but ended up in conflict at the end. Mags had led MD for the last part of the previous reset, but wished to take back his old role of Internal Minister. Diocletian was elected the new leader of MD and set his sights on leading the alliance to bigger and better things. MD's set of allies had changed again. Now adopting a more isolationist policy, MD signed no official pacts during this round.
This reset turned out to be a difficult one for Omega. A few weeks into the reset their top countries were severely hurt by countries from an alliance named Tiger. Closer inspection revealed that these countries were allied to RoCK and an investigation turned up evidence that a RoCK members was controlling these countries. Opinion was divided in Omega on whether to attack RoCK for this action. Eventually this debate caused enough tension for a pack of Omega members to break away from the alliance, later forming the core of what is now known as SoF. The remaining members of Omega finally decided to attack RoCK, but were no match after losing many of their members and having many of their countries severely damaged by the Tiger bot countries. At the end of the reset information was revealed that several elements of the RoCK leadership knew about the Tiger countries and used them to fight Omega. Eventually this scandal lead to the resignation of several RoCK leaders and the formation of Legion, the successor to RoCK.
Meanwhile, MD was in the middle of a peaceful reset. With no real threat of war on the horizon, MD focused its energy on netgaining. MD membership stood at around 70 members at this point in time, being composed of an increasing amount of non-MUD players. Several of the MUD players had retired at the end of the previous reset. A fair amount of new blood was infused into the leadership with the position of foreign minister being filled by Badcat, and the aid of Slambert in administering internal affairs. Several new members recruited from the tournament and 1a games increased the number of excellant netgainers in the alliance, including Eastern, Western, and Natescape. Several problems started to emerge towards the end of the reset.
Gramberto, who had now been relieved of his assumed name, was in the top 5 with less than a week before the end of the reset. However, he was struck down by a group of multies played by rivals who had disputes with him in the past. Gramberto vowed to run bots the next reset on LaF, whom he accused of harboring the individuals responsible for destroying his country. Despite his contributions to the alliance, he was asked to leave the alliance after making his threat to run multies. In addition, two MD countries were hacked at the end of the reset, including Mags' country. This resulted in warning members to guard their login names more carefully, a move which paid off the next reset when a hacker broke into several countries in order to send a clear message to the game administrator to repair the bugs in the game. The unfortunate experience of having countries hacked during this reset resulted in the good fortune of not having a country hacked during the next reset due to the extra precautions taken.
Despite these problems MD finally came through the reset with an impressive netgaining performance, finishing second in total networth. Western finished 5th in the final rankings, and the alliance place 15 of its 70 members in the top 100. A small test reset followed in which several game changes were made, including the introduction of a new government and a general rebalancing of the game. During this time Samoan returned and was elected leader, taking over from Diocletian who had guided MD to its best reset.
Chapter 5: Expansion and Prosperity
An extensive recruiting drive had been conducted during the test reset in order to complete the final piece of the puzzle for MD. MD had proven it was a very capable fighting force in the past, and had just finished up a very successful netgaining reset. Despite the aggressive recruiting campaign, the alliance stood at only 90 members at the beginning of the reset. Due to the ever-changing nature of earth politics MD's set of allies had taken on a very different look. Omega was again signed as an FDP, along with LaF. MD also took a very definative step in its political development, becoming a member of TSA (which consisted of SOL, BoA, Elites, and AoD). This provided the alliance with a strong set of allies to ensure that it would never suffer through another "gang-bang" as had taken place during World War III. The reset got off to a rocky start, as Gramberto's multies took a heavy toll on ally LaF. A spree of mass hackings also interrupted the start of the game, with many countries in other alliances falling victim to the hacker. Luckily MD's previous encounter with a hacker had proven to be an important lesson, and MD countries were largely spared from the hacker's wrath.
The rockcorps alliance site was merged with the rockfamily site to form Gamerstown, which became the new headquarters for MD. The leadership team of MD included Zuul, Diocletian and Mags as Vice Presidents, Badcat as Foreign Minister, and Slambert as internal minister. One month into the reset MD was approached by the leaders of SOL who informed them of problems inside of BoA. Part of BoA, known as Mirage, had set off on its own in order to try its hand a becoming a seperate alliance. After finding the going difficult without the backing of a large member-base, Mirage came to MD asking for protection as a temporary division. Mirage quickly joined the MD tag, boosting the overall alliance membership to over 115. Soon after, 3D - a former MD member and now the leader of WoG, expressed his desire to incorporate WoG into an alliance due to his lack of time to commit to alliance leadership. His previous ties to MD proved to be the difference-maker, and the members of WoG merged into MD, placing the alliance at upwards of 140 members. In little more than a reset the membership of MD had nearly doubled, finally providing the alliance with the numbers needed to cement its place as a top alliance. This addition of members did not dilute the quality of the membership, as an aggressive mentoring and networth coaching campaign helped turn the new members into excellent netgainers.
The middle of the reset was again marred by trouble as Omega was threatened by another bot. This one however was much less menacing due to new restrictions placed in the game on suiciding and Omega went on to finish 3rd in average networth and 4th in total net. LaF overcame its bot troubles and went on to fight Armada, scoring a big victory. The reset as a whole was quiet for TSA, with the exception of a small conflict towards the end of the round. DaMob had encountered a problem with AForce, which quickly escalated into an all-out war. TSA, including MD, came to the assistance of DaMob. Institution of a series of war drills earlier in the round by Zuul proved to be invaluable, as the greatly expanded alliance showed the same coordination it had during its early days, dispatching 15 AForce countries.
After this conflict, MD settled back into netgaining mode. With much of Earth in conflict (primarily centered around a war between UCN and the Rockfamily) MD was able to take several top spots. Four MDers finished the reset in the top 10: Slambert, Nu, Haderach, and Natescape. In addition, 33 members made the top 100 list. MD finished first in total networth by more than doubling that of the second place alliance and finished second in average networth in a down-to-the-wire finish with New Monsters, New Monsters barely edging ahead on the last day. At 150 members the alliance was exactly double its total from the reset before, with no noticeable dropoff in member quality. MD was now recognized as one of the elite alliances of earth and started to garner some nods as the top alliance.
Chapter 6: A Break in the FoG
The political landscape of Earth would change yet again as a new coalition named FoG charged onto the scene. FoG was composed of several alliances, including Legion, NLS, TGA, Forest and Dragons. Forest, NLS, and Legion merged under one large FoG tag with over 300 members which dominated the total networth chart and total members charts in the early going. MD's leadership team remained fairly constant with the lone addition of Ampy to assistant Foreign Minister. The MD membership increased with the addition of TCR, formerly a division of the now defunct CGS. During the middle of the reset MD also took in DaMob as a division due to the longstanding relationship between Hemmingsen and MD. MD remained in TSA (which had added Camelot, and ICN) and had FDPs with Omega (who joined TSA early in the reset) and TIE, as well as LDPs with Arrow (who had come of age the previous reset) and old friends RAGE.
MD was heading through a rather noneventful reset when trouble with one of its allies started to brew. Due to a bug in the ingame news, several attacks that occurred did not show in the news. This became a problem, particularly for TGA who had a stated 2:1 retaliation policy. During this reset both RAGE and LaF had problems when TGA began overretaliating past their 2:1 policy (retaliations that occured did not always show in the news, and TGA relied solely on the news to determine whether a country was still owed retaliation). Tensions increased between LaF and TGA on the news issue, but TGA refused to budge. When the top ranking LaF country performed what LaF considered to be justified retaliations, it was greated with a flurry of missiles and attacks from TGA. LaF had little choice but to declare war after another of their countries was killed by TGA after it tried hitting the missile launchers back.
Meanwhile, RAGE had its own problems with the news-bug retaliation problems from TGA. After escalation of the landgrab situation ingame, including numerous spy ops from TGA, RAGE decided to declare war. By a stroke of fate RAGE and LaF had each declared war and begun their opening assaults on TGA on the same day (for seperate grievances). The FoG main tag quickly came to the aid of TGA, battling back against the RAGE assault. This skirmish lasted for 2 days before evidence of TGA cheating was discovered, at which time TGA was removed from FoG and a ceasefire signed between RAGE and FoG. In another instance of problems with a FoG member, Arrow had been having problems with HAN. Repeated attempts to negotiate with HAN leaders resulted in NAPs that were not honored and eventual escalation of the problem into a full fledged war. The main FoG tag immediately came to the aid of HAN and commenced attacks on Arrow. This led RAGE to declare war on FoG (RAGE had a FDP with Arrow). However, with RAGE still tied up in a war with TGA, Arrow could only hold out so long against the combined 400+ countries of HAN and FoG.
Arrow called on MD to invoke its LDP, which it did, launching an assault on FoG. In short order SoF, Omega, TFS, and New Monsters also joined in the fight against FoG, leaving the coalition badly outnumbered. MD showed its coordination of the past and excellent war tactics were still strong, dealing out the most punishment of any alliance in the war. Despite being outnumbered by FoG 3:2, MD performed 30% more attacks than those countries under the main FoG tag. The results of this war can be found here. After suffering incredible punishment, and the loss of over 80 countries FoG agreed to a ceasefire with the attacking parties. MD had now shown that it was one of the premiere fighting alliances in the game, and despite its size still managed to lead in average attacks delivered per country. This performance was a testament to the long hours of work by the experienced war leaders and dedication of the members, along with experiences of several training drills which helped prepare the members for a wartime situation. With the war over, MD set about rebuilding its war-torn countries which had absorbed almost 60% of the damage inflicted by FoG. Despite this ferocious war (losing 15-20 of its top countries in the process) the alliance again finished at the top in total networth, winning by 1 billion networth over the 2nd place alliance and producing 8 top 100 countries.
At the end of the reset Samoan and Diocletian announced their retirement from MD. In the subsequent election Ampy was chosen as the new leader of the alliance.

Chapter 10: Contained Aggression
This reset started for MD with a change in presidency. Locutus took the reigns from Ampy as president of MD. Vice presidents were Balor and Viola. The rest of MD leadership consisted of M_A_C as FM, Mecil as IM(later replaced by Mathalas), Anticimex as Admin, Zuul as General, Cyron as Strategical Advisor and Assasins leader and Diocletian, Samoan and Ampy as Political Advisors. MD's allies consisted of alliances such as Omega, SoF, AoD, RAGE, Armageddon, PoW, TheCult, Clowns, ICN, Elitez, IX, Arrow, Seawolf and Ragnarok. We had signed alot of DPs this reset due to our intent to war.
This reset was a reset where MD would once again show it fighting prowess after we won Total Networth the reset before. This reset would be one were MD would be more prepared for war then ever before, it would be the best war performance we had and we would fight a formidable enemy. One we found in UCN. It was early in the reset when UCN was chosen as the intended target for that reset, something we had not done before(chosing a target a mere few days into the reset.) UCN as intended target had been discussed with the VP's and in a bigger extent with Ampy.
I (Locutus) had to leave for the weekend to goto a concert and left Balor and Viola in control of MD. The events happening in that weekend changed the plans for MD that reset. When I returned from the concert to take back control I was informed by Balor he had a run in with Fingolfin. Apparently Fingolfin caught wind of MD's plans to strike them, and had threatened to war MD. Balor UNAPPED UCN on advice from Ampy, who knew I had planned to take UCN on head to head that reset and that I would welcome these threats of UCN. This backstab by MD leadership caused a complete change of plans for MD. When Balor left the reset after this one, I found out the full truth. Ampy had signed a secret FDP with UCN this reset behind my back. And looking back it was probably she who informed fingolfin, I still believe Balor was suckered in here.
With UCN out of the way as a target, MD continued to prepare for a war, hoping that some of our DPs would pull us into a war, we had signed some pacts with alliances that warred alot, so chances of defending an ally in battle were good.
Early in the reset we got into a topfeeding battle with SoL. MD membership screamed for war with SoL, however MD leadership did not see SoL as a target. They would not provide the needed exposure which this reset was all about for MD. The SoL issue resulted in heated exchange of landgrabs until both sides agreed to NAP eachother and cease the hostilities. SoL and MD had grown apart for several resets due to SoLs refusal to accept 2:1 retals on NAP violations. Since TSA broke up SoL and MD have never been as tight again, but still warring them would not give us the wanted exposure. So MD leadership looked for allies who we could assist in war, so we could crush a few alliances and gain favor with allies.
However during the reset no wars our allies fought exploded into wars where allies where called in. Leaving a MD fully prepared for war without an enemy to relieve it's aggression on. This reset was a reset where MD was more prepared then EVER before for war. MD consisted of OVER 100 dictators, and had the ability to strike anyone down with force. Never before had MD been this ready, each and every MD nation was perfectly setup to do battle.
The reset started to draw to a close and we still had not fought, our networth was below standard due to the EXTREME level of commitment to war ready countries. There was no major focus on netgaining as ussual, we had focussed on 100% war governments and warbult nations. A good networth finish was not an option. Omega was also build for war that reset and had not found a battle, we even considered a friendly 1 on 1 with our close allies The Omega, but MD preceived this as completely useless and it would not advance our goals one bit.
It was a few weeks before the reset ended that RED got hit by a much larger TGA. RED and TGA had been exchanging attacks for awhile now. RED had aggressively topfed TGA and TGA had enough and struck RED. RED died off pretty quickly, since TGA outnumbered them 3:1. MD at that time had nothing more then a NAP with RED. However this would be one of the last opportunities to be able to show our war prowess. A quick glace over TGA's publically posted ally list reveiled they had several allies they could call in on MD, to give us more of a challenge. So MD leadership contacted RED leadership and RED agreed to sign a fake LDP with MD, allowing us to come in. It is also to be noted TGA has 95% of their alliance hiding in GDI.
MD struck TGA fast and very hard. The first strike was the BEST first strike by MD in its entire history, with almost 7000 hits(6.somethingK) in the first 24 hours of the war(with the old readiness values). TGA was unable to defend against MD's attacks, they kept focussing mainly on RED and after most of RED had died they focussed more on MD. Unlike we predicted TGA choose not to call in allies against MD, leaving MD with a war where we killed over 100 TGA nations without much resistance or casualties on MD side. The GDI of TGA hindered out war effort due to the dec war bug(population kills dont let you undeclare war). The public expose from this war however was not very good. MD had made it's best first strike since it's existance and was one of the more effective MD war machines compared to previous incarnations, but our public exposure provided a problem and looking back, we did not use our PR abilities to the best.
During the last few weeks as president I saw how the reset went for MD and I quickly got burned out by the constant warchats and the uneventfull war. In my eyes I had failed MD, eventhough MD had performed better then war then ever before, I felt like I had let MD down. I choose not to run again for president and withdrew after accepting my nomination. I was too burned out and unable to lead anymore. I needed a break desperately. In the following presidential elections the candidates were Ampy, Balor and Viola.
One of MD's best rules during our presidential elections was the NO campaigning rule. I broke this myself, by openly endorsing Ampy for president, a choice made out of resentment towards my VPs due to the fact I held them responsible for the UNAP with UCN, which in my mind caused the failure of this reset. Ampy eventually won the elections, and I let her taken over the last week of the reset, so i could take the much needed break as I hated to login to the MD website at that moment.
Chapter 11: The End of a Legend?
This reset started for MD with a change in presidency. Ampy took back the reigns from Locutus as president of MD. Vice president was M_A_C. The rest of the leadership consisted of Balor as IM, Viola as FM, Chirod as Admin, Waser as General(The successor to one of the best generals in the game, Zuul), Locutus as Politcal and Strategical advisor, Diocletian as Political Advisor and Cyron as Strategic Advisor. Samoan and Mathalas started this reset as political advisors as well but eventually left MD.
MD's allies remained very much the same as the reset before, however there were some noteworthy changes. With Ampy as president the secret FDP from the previous reset became an "open" DP. This means the heads knew about it. This decision was not taken in very well by the rest of MD leadership at all. Since MD had always been distant from UCN in the past, and Fingolfin, UCN's president, was preceived by MD leadership as a leader who did not care much for it's allies and always had a hidden agenda. But Ampy, as president pushed the decision, eventhough other heads disagreed with this. Another VERY interesting FDP was.. TGA.
The previous reset MD had destroyed TGA and Digtek was not, well lets say he was quite pissed off by MD's involvement in the RED-TGA war(I wish I had not accidently deleted my old ICQ database, you should have seen the conversations between myself and DigTek, quite amusing). TGA and Ampy had been talking during the reset change, and TGA threatened to destroy MD with multis to revenge the defeat suffered in the previous reset versus MD. Ampy saw this threat as real and did not wish MD to face this. In her own way she thought she was saving MD from the attack of the multis, perhaps she did. She choose to sign the FDP under the threat of multis. However she did not inform other MD heads about this decision until later. I will continue about how this played down internally abit later. First more on the beginning of this very though reset for MD.
MD started the reset, setting out to netgain yet again. Our goal was to take another networth title home. We suffered from some players who were not fully active, and before I knew it the decision was taken by Ampy/M_A_C to remove ANY inactive membership, instead of giving it effort to get them active again. This MAJOR loss in membership cost MD some 30-40 members if I remember it correctly. To me this was a wrong decision, till this day I believe we should have focussed and worked hard on instilling activity and loyalty into these members and not shoving them out like yesterdays thrash. But it was done. So MD started with a lowered membership. Recruitment was stopped completely so we were unable to replace the lost membership and we kept hovering around the 140 members in the start of the reset. Only people that knew MD'ers were accepted. But we would heavy reorganize and come out this reset stronger, or so was the plan. Quitely netgain and grow stronger.
But that is not how this reset turned out. This is undoubtedly the thoughest reset MD had EVER been through. And this would become evident as the reset progressed. For awhile now, since the previous reset people had began to predict MD's decline. They were right, it did happen, but not like they thought it would.
During this reset the MD heads would totally dissapear from the scene. We had introduced a new concept, called the "State of MD". A weekly report by the president of MD, about the current affairs of MD. Each week Ampy posted this state of MD, however M_A_C wrote them almost each time. The activity from our heads dwindled down at an alarming rate. Not only Ampy lacked the time and dedication, but our total head team did. As said Ampy did not even take the time to write her weekly update, her time spent on MD dwindled down to a weekly sentimental message on the private forum to our membership. Balor, our IM, did near to nothing for his task. Viola, our FM, solely focussed on his FM tasks, having hardly any contact with MD membership, yet doing his job as FM good. M_A_C had spent alot of the reset doing the work of Ampy and Balor. Around the 2nd week of december M_A_C went home from school and had only limited internet time. The time he had online was concentrated on a project I will talk later about and on various contest/coaching. M_A_C became heavily burned out from shouldering so much of the burden, being IM, VP, Pres and FM in one. I had VERY minimal presence on the forums, since I was burned out after last reset. However my joy for the game and MD returned after a few weeks(2-3). Diocletian did his job as advisor, and only advised the heads. Other heads didnt do much of solid work at all. Chirod however did his admin job and took over most of the tasks Balor, as IM, and ampy neglected. He was perhaps the only trully active head at that time and shouldered alot of the burden. This inactivity of the head team resulted in a very bad communication towards our leaders and veterans.
As I said earlier Ampy had signed a FDP with TGA, without informing the other heads, how we found out about it, I am not sure, she might have said so herself or we found out through other means. At first this resulted in a big fight between Samoan and Ampy which was more of a mudslinging fight. This dispute with Ampy caused Samoan to leave MD for good. The other heads however continued this discussion. Ampy explained her actions, and told the heads she did it for MD. However this opinion was not shared at all . We saw it as a sign of weakness, by signing a FDP with TGA because of a threat was NOT how MD operated. MD heads strongly oppossed the decision and told ampy to tell TGA we would break the pact on the spot. However Ampy refused this. The inactivity among the heads caused this to lay dorment for a while as we waited for Ampy to go and break the pact, reminding her frequently. But she refused. So I took it upon myself to correct this mistake she made and went to TGA to break the pact myself. I was told by TGA they required Ampy to say i had the authority to do so, and after talking to ampy she messaged TGA telling them i had the authority to do so. So I approached TGA again the next day and cancelled our relations to them. Finally bringing an end to this very akward situation for MD. We keep the thread up on our heads forum until this day, so our new heads can read it and see how this went down and the mistakes made. (You may read this Wiz room thread HERE)
During all this M_A_C and Ampy had also endavoured on another project. One that would mean the death of Moral Decay. They both saw the dropping membership numbers, the inactive leadership and their solution to this problem was an equal merger WITH our long term allies of TheCult. This merger was seen as a way to bring new blood to MD. To restore MD to power and fix all our problems. The alliance resulting from this would bear the name The Cult of Moral Decay. These merger talks went all the way. Every detail was worked out and it was set to go. Until some other events took place internally.
Around january 1st it was I believe that our swedish division all stood up and left MD, due to discontent with MD leadership. They left to Titans, an alliance Samoan(who had left MD due to discontent with the TGA matter and personal fights with Ampy) had started. Before our swedish division left, various other MD'ers had already stood up and left MD. As said our leadership was running on VERY limited power. After a talk with the swedes, people whom I had befriended in MD, I saw the true seriousness of the situation and knew something had to be done. so I proceeded by making a post to our heads, telling them that this situation could NOT continue. I laid out the fact and the changes that needed to happen. The basic contents of this post(which remains on our heads forum till this day) was that the only active heads consisted of me and chirod, and that the other needed to be replaced. And after I made that post, the changes started to happen. I entered a chat with ampy, where she told me she realized she was not the leader MD needed at this moment. MD was losing members at a rapid pace and nothing was happening. MD leadership was inactive. She told me she was stepping down as per immediatly. And asked me to take over as president. I agreed to this without hesistation. (You may read this post HERE)
After that moment the changes started to happen. MD leadership was consolidating. I became the new president of MD, M_A_C was able to get back and be active again, he remained as VP. Balor was demoted to veteran on the spot. Chirod was convinced to stay(he had already got access to the titans forum and did not believe in the possibility of a revival of MD) promoted to IM. We did not replace the admin position. Waser remained as general, Diocletian remained as advisor, but only until the end of this reset. Because we re-defined what it meant to be a head. If you wanted to be a head, you had two jobs. You were an IM, an admin, but you had a second job, you were a HEAD. This meant that when you see a problem, YOU fix it, it meant you needed to be active towards our members, talk to them, communicate with them. Viola also remained as FM, but would step down after this reset due to the fact he could not live upto what being a head meant, he was an excellent FA though.
It was this moment that changed MD, if we had not undertaken action then, chirod one of the two active heads left, would leave to titans, leaving only me as fully active head. which would not have been enough to restore MD. This was the first step. It was taken on january 2nd and 3rd. It was a proud day, a day where we stopped the decline of MD and started working on improving MD once again.
But it was ONLY the first step. MD had fallen from very high, and very hard. But MD heads BELIEVED we could do it, and that was the key. Alot happened after that, too much to describe to you now. But we also very quickly realized the cult merger was NOT an option for MD. The cult merger was a easy escape from our problems, a misguided direction taken by MD leadership. So it was then that we stopped futher discussing it. Our membership was not for this merger at all, they saw things went wrong, but they felt a extreme loyalty to MD, they would NOT let it die. So we took a vote. This vote was twofold. More then 75% of our members and veterans needed to vote pro this merger and more then 75% of the heads and leaders needed to vote pro this merger. We did not bother to promote this merger to our membership one bit, since we did not see it as a solution, but we wanted our membership to speak up, to give them a voice. The vote did not pass leadership, and it did not pass our membership. Both votes turned out negative by far.
But doing this vote, letting our members feel the end of MD was so very close(A quote i remember was that this merger was "This will be the last nail in our coffin"). The spirit to our membership returned. Leadership AND membership wanted to work for MD and hard. All that remained of MD was a veteran core of about 85-95 members with about 10-20 members. Everyone started to work on MD again. The heads apologized for the extreme level of failure coming from them, which was DIRECTLY responsible for our downfall.
The path of communication from our heads to our members and veterans were restored. We made it a rule no head could hide on invisible when online and encouraged our membership to yet again contact heads whenever they saw us online. We moved all discussions from our heads forum to the leaders forum, re-establishing good communication with our leaders, which was near non-existant before. Our veterans started a recruitment drive. We gathered contacts of all our old veterans and asked them to rejoin MD in an effort to rebuild MD, a project led by Ball, a true MD veteran. Other MD'ers helped Ball, they recruited their friends, they wanted to work for MD. They signed up for any job they coul do. Everyone was willing to help pull MD out of the grave and hole we were in.
This was perhaps one of the best times ever for MD. Knowing MD nearly did not exist as alliance anymore, a threat that was so close to everyone, that the leaving of veterans stopped, that everyone worked for MD. I can not credit the revival of MD to any one person, it was a team effort, one started on 3 january, a massive change for MD, but damn those were the days. Heads spending well over 10 hours day on MD, every member doing what they could. I have one word to describe the resilance MD showed then, AWESOME. It was a great sight to see.
MD ended the reset with only 114 members tagged (from 190 the previous reset), but we had a new sense of direction, new goals and new things to conquer and achieve. MD would never give up.
Chapter 12: Illuminated Skies
This reset started for MD with only a few changes in our leadership. We had already seen alot of changes in our leadership 2 weeks before this reset started. Locutus was elected president again, with as vice president M_A_C again. The other leadership consisted of Chirod as IM, Ozmosis as FM, Mags as admin(later to be PA), Versus as raider leader(later to take over from Mags as Admin) and Waser as general. We had severely streamlined our leadership. We went from 13 heads to only 6 heads, which worked much better. This reset we have 6 heads, 14 leaders, 79 veterans and 68 members. These stats showed that MD had only lost 15 veterans from 2 resets ago(when we were 180 members large) and that 80% of our membership loss in the previous resets were regular members, it proved MD had a solid core.
Our relations remained much the same. Noteworthy were the FDP with SoF and Omega, a LDP with Ragnarok and a FDP with Clowns. At the beginning we were still hammering out the pact details with SoF and Elitez who both introduced land:land retals. These pact types would prevent topfeeding, and let the hit alliance hit back as much as needed to regained the lost land. MD did not favor this approach to retals, but as a test we accepted both pact offers.
The history for this reset is very well preserved, as stated in the previous chapter we started doing states of MD, which informed our veterans on whats going on in MD, and how situations developed. These were all saved and are used as reference base.
This reset was a netgaining reset for MD. We needed to recover from the events of last reset where the MD saga nearly ended. Our leadership was doing very good, communication between leaders and heads was excellent, and the communication from heads to veterans and members was superb, a VERY big improvement from the previous reset. MD was making great strides internally from the previous reset. The coaching program for example which was completely dead the previous reset had been restarted, early reset some 40 members were receiving active 1 on 1 coaching. Alot of projects were restarted everywhere, the revival of MD internally was an amazing thing to witness.
During the first few weeks we grew to 140 members again, and we were going great ingame! We were the most landfat alliance in the game, a tradition of MD :). We experienced some early trouble with topfeeding by UCN and TGA. Ampy had left MD for UCN and wanted a 2:1 FDP with MD, however as you could read in the previous chapter MD carried no love for UCN, so we offered them a 2:1 NAP, this was respectfully declined by their FA Ampy, and we ended up with no pact whatsoever, leading to various exchanges in land between MD and UCN. However we were able to settle our differences and sign a NAP after the early exchanges in acres. The TGA matter was different though. TGA was still somewhat resentfull from the war 2 resets ago and the fact I had cancelled the FDP they got from the previous MD leadership under threats. We had no pacts and we faced alot of topfeeds by TGA. However MD had our assasins in place, a small team of players who play jet heavy dictator farmers, staying at low acres. It is their job to effectively do retals and gain alot of acres back, letting the MD'er they retalled for farm the acres back. This ensured we were superior in the land exchanges when the assasins were put to use. However this situation very quickly escalated when one of our assasins, pepo, did alot of retals one after another on TGA'ers that grabbed us. TGA's response consisted of VERY many attacks on pepo's country. This caused MD to goto yellow alert and prepare for war, even though this was a netgaining reset, we were always ready for war and knew we might have to pick up the arms. I did not call yellow alert immediately, because TGA admitted their fault and seemed more then willing to settle the problems, but the next day we had seen that TGA had only attacked a few times that day, suggesting they were saving turns. MD responded by saving full turns and executing on it its warplans, to take MD from netgaining mode to full war readiness mode in a few days. Our members were instructed on what to do. However in later talks, TGA remained willing to admit fault and we signed a 2:1 NAP, ending the yellow alert and the immediate danger for war, but if war would have come, then MD would have been ready for it. These events all transpired in the fifth week of the reset.
MD continued to grow as alliance but also ingame. We remained the most landfat alliance in the entire game by FAR! as these stats show: Week 6 of the reset(2/27/2001): 1.MD 16,083 2.Titans 13,773 (-2310 acres) 3.Horizon 12,904 (-3179 acres) 4.Omega 12,888(-3195 acres) 5.RED 12,600(-3483 acres) MD was set up for a TNW win, even though we only carried 135 members at the time! We were looking very good! However those plans to take total networth were violently pushed aside. On thursdaynight(march 1st 2001), just after I went to sleep, IX attacked Omega because of a dispute from the previous reset (Omega leader Aphex had revealed that IX babysat countries in their wars by sitting in on warchats). A very silly reason to war Omega, just because IX was caught with their pants down. Also note that Omega was totally geared to netgain, while IX was geared to fight.
Omega had traditionally been MD's closest ally, we had fought together many times. And this reset Omega had totally been geared towards netgaining, they were not prepared for war and had suffered the loss of a large percentage of their top nations in the first strike of IX. So Omega called for MD to assist.
However before the war between IX and Omega began some events happened that are of alot of importance to the story. The day before IX declared war on The Omega, the FA of IX came to me to talk about upgrading our pact (this was on 28 february), we signed a UNAP(Unbreakable Non Agression Pact) and would sign a LDP(Limited Defensive Pact) the coming reset. MD signed that pact wit IX, thinking IX had the best of intentions(like they claimed). However after IX first struck The Omega the following day, it became clear that IX only wanted the UNAP with MD, because it would prevent MD from assisting The Omega in their war.
At first we explored our options for this war, unfortunatly MD was Omegas only backup, I believe SoF was already pre-occupied at the time with killing some alliance. SoF would have been more then willing to take a piece out of IX, if they were not pre-occupied. It became clear that MD was the ONLY and last line of defense for The Omega. If MD did not give up our netgaining chances, then Omega would surely suffer a defeat(if memory serves they had lost near 30 top nations of they 120 total nations in the first strike by IX).
So it was decided, eventhough we had signed the UNAP with IX, we would assist The Omega to defeat IX. IX had betrayed the trust of MD when they signed that UNAP, no way in hell we would honor that pact and leave omega out in the cold.
On sunday march 4th around 5.05PM gametime we went to war against the Illuminati X in defense of our FDP The Omega. (You may read the declaration of war post used HERE) This war VERY quickly escalated and would last until the end of the reset. The war was VERY brutal. MD's activity rate in this war was very high, between 92% and 96%. Early in the war IX stonewalled alot, IX knew our first strike was coming, and they had saved turns to stonewall with, hampering MD's early war effort, also MD did not have enough time to switch from netgaining mode to war mode, due to the urgency of the situation. One of the tactics employed by MD and Omega was targetting the high ranking and active countries ofcourse. But we had the luck to get the membershiplist of IX' site which linked each IX country to it's owner. We used this information to take out the countries of IX' presidents and heads and leaders first. We hoped this would strike their morale. The nations we killed in the first few days of the war belonged to: Deitylord (IX president), scarface(IX vice president), Tbody(IX war minister), DTA(Internal affairs), DrSbaitso(IX foreign affairs), Don Duque(War minister) and abit later we killed Alan (IX Foreign affairs). No heads remained alive. We knew their membership would notice the countries of their heads were killed. In general membership looks upto their heads and they will take the death of the country of the president "harder" then of a regular veteran or member.
In response to MD's involval in the war, IX called in one of it's allies, namely PoW. However instead of PoW hitting MD, like we expected, they hit The Omega, causing more widespread damage there and avoiding MD DP's. But we did not leave it at this, MD and Omega brutally continued their onslaught on IX(our shared warchats ROCKED!), and MD's LDP Ragnarok was willing to assist MD and Omega in our war, by taking some pressure of Omega and striking PoW. The war escalted from that very quickly, and the sides were:
"-->" denotes attacked: A attacked B
- IX --> omega
- MD --> IX (MD defended Omega)
- POW --> Omega (PoW aided IX)
- Rag --> POW (Rag defended Omega)
- FA --> MD (FA defended IX)
- SEAWOLF --> Ragnarok (Seawolf defended PoW)
- CWG --> FA (CWG defended MD)
- ICN --> CWG (ICN defended FA)
- KoS --> seawolf (KoS defended Rag)
- CCSGN --> seawolf (CCSGN defended Rag)
- CWG --> ICN (CWG switched target to ICN, since sof was allied to ICN and couldnt hit them, they could however hit FA)
- SOF --> FA (SoF took over from CWG and attacked FA, SoF defended MD)
- Quebec -->MD(Quebec defended IX)
- CCSGN withdraws at this point and attack TKS(unrelated)
So how does this all even upto the sides:
IX,POW,FA,SEAWOLF,ICN,Quebec vs. Omega,MD,Rag,CWG,KoS,SoF,CCSGN(withdrawn)
So how many vs how many nations is this? 606 nations vs 683 nations At that time(week 8 of the reset, 3/13/2001) we had 68 confirmed kills on IX(this is from Omega and MD hits). MD had lost around 30 nations (this is from hits from IX, FAngels and Quebec). MD was outhitting IX, and we had about 25-28 top 500 nations left (the "breakers") while IX has NO active alive nations in the top 500 left at that time.
FAngels and Quebec were used by IX to break down MD toprankers, also ALOT of MD top rankers were AB'ed by FAngels (my own country was leveled from 34K build acres to 1.5K build acres). This did not deter our hit output much, but it caused our toprankers to slowly drop out of the top 500 and top 1000. FAngels was quickly decimated by CWG and then by SoF. PoW was beating down on Omega, however one Omega country stonewalled 1800 hits from PoW due to their slow warchats.
Seeing how MD's attacks on IX were not stopped by the combined forces of IX, Quebec and Fangels, IX let their ally Seawolf stop from attacking Ragnarok, and Seawolf struck MD as well, hoping to deter the MD warmachine. The Cult and SoF attacked Quebec. Euro defended Quebec and struck The Cult. After the brutal attack on Quebec by mainly SoF Quebec surrendered to MD and they disbanded and merged into TIE.
MD's performance in this war remained excellent, we killed the 100th IX'er on 3/20/2001. We kept outhitting IX each day, and they had only 2 toprankers left, compared to MD's 13(note: alot of our toprankers dropped out of the top 1000 due to loss of buildings and selling tech etc for cash). Our activity at this time remained OVER 90%, this was after 15 days of battle, its impressive to say the least, since ALOT of MD'ers died as well or were leveled. During this time it was also beginning to become clear that IX' had internal problems. We saw very little restarts from them, their hit numbers dwindled quickly, IX members seemed to not believe in the war anymore. The early killing of their leaders nations, hopefully had a little to do with this. (You may read an AT post about IX and their war efforts HERE)
Beside the war MD kept focussing on expansion, we kept recruiting and looking for potential alliances to absorb into MD, merger talks INTO MD were advanced with PSi and OLM, but those were both blown off.
The war with IX lasted until the very last day of the reset, IX had insulted SoF and SoF wanted a piece of the killing of IX. however SoF respected MD and Omega's wishes to finish this alone. IX had been beaten down, at the end of the war IX was putting out like 200 attacks each day, if even, while MD and Omega continued strong each day. There was no sight of IX member restarts when their countries died, while MD'ers and omegans did restarted as soon as they lost their nation. MD and omega had achieved our goal. We had completely annihilated IX, ALL our firepower was aimed at IX, and at the end, no IX remained. Under 11 IX countries remained alive, we had broken IX as an alliance, not just ingame, but much more importantly their morale, which was a great thing to see accomplished. Noteworthy is that SoF (joined by CWG) did strike IX on the very last day to release their anger on IX, they didnt strike earlier, as said before, on the request of Omega and MD leadership. (You can see an overview of killed IX nations HERE)
We'd like to extend our thanks to all our allies who helped MD and Omega this reset for their support, it is good to see we were able to pull out a victory with our allies. The bonds between MD and Omega tightened VERY strongly after that war.
In the end of the reset rankings, we were ranked 3rd best alliance in the game, not quite the best, but we had recovered for being almost dead the reset before to a powerhouse.
We had just finished a very succesfull reset, we have shown off our netgaining ability and crushed our enemies. This reset had it all. I can remember the comments MD got at the beginning of the reset, that MD was going the way of the dinosaurs and that we wouldnt last. At the end we were ranked about 3rd best alliance and were getting nothing but credit for our good performance. This reset was good to accomplish our main goal, to be viewed as best alliance by the general earth public, but alot of improvements remained for MD.
Chapter 13: MD's pearl Harbor
This reset started in march of 2001 and ended in june 2001.
The leadership team of MD looked as following:
President: Locutus
Internal Minister: Versus
General: Waser
Other heads: Chirod & M_A_C
PA: Diocletian
Assasin leader: Cyron
Raider leader: Deltrax
Known DLs for that reset:
Hoop
Ash
Crazy
Hurricane
Avsman
Morpheus
MD set out this reset to win the TNW crown, we wanted to netgain this reset and increase our internal stability some more and grow in membership size. After the brutal war of last reset versus IX we really wanted this reset to be a netting reset as we were unable to continue netgaining last reset in order to help out The Omega. We did not have any official relations with IX, as they refused to sign any pacts. MD required IX to pact us and The Omega in one go, or else there would be no pact at all. This led to some early land exchanges between MD and IX.
MD's allies remained mostly unchanged, our closest allies were The Omega and SoF. Relations also improved with Ragnarok as they hit PoW last reset to help MD and Omega. We upgraded them to a FDP and intended to cultivate this relationship in time to come. Interesting to note is the creation of a secret coalition this reset called FoP (Federation of Pornstars) were most alliance leaders used pseudo names of a pornographic nature. This coalition was informal and it's goal was to create tighter bonds between the alliances in the coalition which were (among others) The Omega, MD, SoF and RAGE. It is RAGE whom will play an important role in the later events as you'll come to realize.
As said before MD and IX had no official relations and we entered in some land exchanges with them. Luckily we had our assasin program still fully operational and had anticipated for the need for them and had increased the number of assasins accordingly. The land exchanges between MD and IX are a good indication of the state of the relations between our alliances, it wasn't good.
The following overview gives an insight in the exchanges in acres that took place during that reset. noting the number of acres gained or lost in the exchange for MD.

Exchanges like the ones above continued for the reset, by trying to win in each exchange we hoped to make IX realize that a NAP was in their interest.
MD was doing very good this reset in terms of netgaining, we arrived at a moment in time where we were all stockpiling like mad and on our way to a TNW crown when something unforeseen happened.
A land exchange occurred between MD and Elitez, it is unclear who started the exchange but massive amounts of land were taken on both sides and overretals occured. At this moment in time Elitez were the closest allies of IX, and MD never was a great friend of Elitez, so you can imagine that any land exchange between our alliance creates a lot of tensions. Diplomatic talks between our alliances failed, so MD tried to stale while we put our alliance on red alert. The onyl reason we stalled was so we had time to prepare for a first strike on Elitez. We had planned on a quiet netting alliance but the inability to reach an agreement with Elitez forced us to prepare for the worse. Naturally we informed our close allies in the FoP alliance, which proved to be a fatal mistake. Unknown to us at the time Daren of RAGE had given vital secret information from the coalition website to Elitez leaders. This enabled Elitez to know that MD was preparing for war and gave them the chance to strike us first. Naturally Elitez didnt hesistate and used the wealth of inside information to strike MD before MD was ready and able to strike Elitez. Elitez said that this first strike would be MD's pearl harbor, referring to the attack of the japanese on the US base of Pearl harbor during the second world war The first strike of Elitez on MD was a massive setback, as said earlier MD was already in full stocking mode and many of our nations had massive food stockpiles. and because we were on red alert each member let those stockpiles return so they could be used in the first strike against our enemy. But our food stockpiles started to work against us as it was still possible to take a huge percentage of bushels each time you GS someone. So Elitez GS'ed most of our top nations to death in their first strike and while doing that taking massive amounts of bushels with increased the strength of their countries a lot. MD quickly countered attacked, but had already lost a lot of nations and Elitez nations had used their own stockpiles and the stockpiles the took from MDers to jump away in networth. MD required assistance to beat Elitez, and our good friend Omega was more then happy to join in and return the favor of last reset, thus Omega struck Elitez to help us out. We again had joined warchats where MD and Omega leaders would lead warchats together. this worked very well last reset and it did again this reset. As i said earlier IX and Elitez were close friends, it wont suprise you that IX took on Omega immediately and released their aggression over the loss of last reset and the babysitting scandal the reset before. MD's and Omegas war efforts against Elitez proved to be futile, every time we struck an Elitez country it would be online within seconds. It turned out Elitez cheated and babysat eachothers countries, sharing login codes and such. Making killing any country extremely difficult.
The war escalated quickly and in the end MD was being hit by the combined forces of Elitez/Camelot and IRON. In the end MD lost the war, mainly due to the fact Elitez cheated their asses off and by the fact they were able to strike us before we struck them. We only found out they had access to the FoP coalition forum posts some 6 months later. Till this day we do not know how many of RAGE leadership was involved, but we believe it was not the entire RAGE leadership, possibly it was only Daren.
MD did not take kindly to losing a war because the other side cheated. MD planned for revenge on a scale that had not been seen before. Elitez rise to power would be stopped once and for all. More on that in Chapter 14 - Elitez' Nagasaki and Horishima (aka The Big 6 reset).

Chapter 19: The Legend's Worst enemy is it's own Shadow
President - Iccyh
Vice President - Avsman, Daved
Admin - Yuki
Foreign Minister – Exodus, Tempest then Elrond
Internal Minister – Smart Liberal
General - Daved followed by Chranos
PA – M_A_C, Kalick, Morpheus
Following the disastrous intervention of RD in the Ivy League coalition wars MD was in a highly unstable state. Throughought the entire vet and leadership core there was a general burnout. RD- MD relations had been relatively sour for well over a year due to a MD member hacking the RD heads board and a belief that MD had championed directing the firepower of TIL against RD. The prospect of being drawn into a botwar demoralized MD from the heads team down.
With this situation in mind the MD elections for last set had been barely contested. Morpheus had made clear that he would no be seeking reelection due to other commitments. Iccyh ran for election and won easily, even though his support was shaky at best and downright non existent at worst. This problem would come to head later in the set when MD would suffer a near-crippling blow.
A large contingent of old-time MD veterans had come together with a plan to form another alliance; conditions in MD were very undesirable due to the RD problem and the recent gutting of a large proportion of the ‘old hands’. This break off plan was reflected in the attitudes of many veterans on boards; it was obvious sentiment was highly negative towards Iccyh in particular. The heads team became aware of such a plan quite early in its inception, eventually obtaining a definitive list of most of the veterans intending to make the move. The Alliance to be formed would be known as Saints, with its current members taking up aliases along the lines of saints themselves (eg Saint. Joe). The formation of Saints was not an aggressive move against MD, nor were the feelings expressed by those leaving negative towards MD as a whole, it was just felt a change of setting was needed for many people who had been burnt out in recent sets. This turn of events, whilst viewed at the time as being a catastrophic blow for our already diminished membership, probably gave the new leadership the breathing space needed in the coming sets of rebuilding.
Whilst all this was unfolding there was the ever present problem of RD, the issues in which RD had gone to war with MD over in past sets hadn’t been addressed, RD-MD land wars were common, issues of retaliation vs. getting botted were a constant problem as the membership convulsed with utter frustration, morale was low and MD’s membership in TIL came under question. As the older leadership’s dream of a powerful coalition to shape policy in the server faded from reality, it became clear that if MD were to survive a hostile server, the constant threat of botting and the internal meltdown, changes would have to occur. The new leadership team with the tireless assistance of the ‘loyalist’ DL’s and veterans quickly set to work to face this multi faceted menace.
This set was marked mostly by a change in MD’s direction from external control to internal Damage control. The toll of RD incursions, coalition wars and leadership burnout created a highly volatile set. Problems with RD were rife. MD finished out the set with less then 100 members but on a more positive note, things couldnt get much worse.

Chapter 23: A New Hope
Things were not looking good 3 reset ago when Saints left MD. We had 65 members left after the split, and MD was considering a merger to stay alive. Fortunately, the merger did not occur, as there were still those amongst us who believed in the dream that is MD. We reaccessed our position in 1a, we looked at the problems that brought us down and we changed in many ways.
This reset, the August 2003 reset, continued to be a growing and positive reset for MD. The elected President of MD this reset was Syris. His leadership team this reset was :
President - Syris
Vice President - Elrond
Internal Minister - Daren
Foreign Minister - Uber Bu
General - Aniara/Exodus
Political Advisors - Chranos, Yuki
Administrator - Gibber
Division Leadership team : Jax, Seraphim, Seth, Kharn, Duke, Yuanshuo, Pepo, Dragnars, GamerX, nth, Qwoozy, A$$Rammer, SuFFy, Maverick, Face, and Havoc.
This reset was planned to be one of MD's few netgaining resets. The reset before, MD had achieved 7 top 100 countries for the May 2003 Reset, a feat that hasn't been repeated since March 2001. Among MD's FDPs were TIE and ICN this reset, which in retrospect seemed like interesting choices, as many felt that our relationships with these alliances were drifting apart. PDM (Paradigm) was also MD's FDP this reset and we aided them with Foreign Aid during their war with Laf. Omega, a long time friend and ally of MD, was our only other FDP.
Organisational changes within MD were predominant this reset. MD continued using its controversial Strategy Based divisions for a second reset, hoping that this would allow better training for our new members. During the course of the reset, the leadership team worked together to create the New Retal Forum system, MD Profile's Forums, updated our Player's Manual, and even created a new Gamerstown Site called MDTrain. Many of the changes brought a more effective and organised MD.
MD's reset went smoothly, with a planned War Drill on a small 18 member allianced called FARK. The war drill did not produce good results in terms of hits done, as many of the targets were too small for most MDers to hit and were also in GDI. However, we took this oppurtunity to train our new leaders in war chat coordination as well as guide newer members through the basics of a war.
Veterans took part in many discussions this reset, which is many ways helped shape the policies of our alliance for the resets to come. The elections this reset started a week earlier in order to give the new president oppurtunity to prepare for the new reset. The elections ended during the last week of the reset. Many eager MDers were online just before the elected President was announced. It was a much anticipated election and at the end, we collected a total of 42 votes. Everyone was surprised when it was announced that we had a tie. This became the first presidential election tie in MD's history. Out of 42 votes, Daren and Maverick got 15 votes each. A second poll was created to allow MDers to vote between the two candidates. 24 hours later, Daren emerged as the elected President.
MD ended with 5 top 100 countries and rank 6 in TNW this reset. Our performance in terms of netgaining this reset has been below expectations.
Chapter 24: The Decay Reborn
The August reset was viewed as MD’s first chance in over a year to re-assert itself as a power within the game, politically and militarily, after a year of trials and tribulations we as a team finally felt that MD was ready to take the plunge back into the political tangle and come out better for it. Our Membership was the most stable it had been for several resets due to exceptional new members flowing into MD in previous sets, this was also boosted by the return of many old veterans. The leadership team was as follows:
President - Daren
Vice President - Elrond
Internal Minister - Jax
Foreign Minister - Uber Bu
General - Kharn
Political Advisors - Chranos, Yuki
Administrator - Gibber
Division Leadership team: Charlie, Lustwar, Yuanshuo, Hitokiri, Y-Not and Maverick who headed the reborn training division dubbed lil Lambs.
Off the back of a relatively successful Netgaining reset it was felt amongst the heads team that we had proven to any critics in earth that MD was well able to netgain on par with the majority of major alliances, the only remaining front we had left unaddressed was our ability to defend ourselves with force. It was with this is mind that Daren decided that this set was to be a war set, whether of a Defensive or Offensive nature remained uncertain. All members were informed to prepare war ready countries and expect to use them some time during the set. This preparation was widely celebrated amongst the veterans and members of MD alike. For several resets we were forced to avoid conflict in the name of rebuilding, this was no longer the case. If any alliance were to try and take advantage of MD we were ready and willing to take the fight to them.
Surprisingly, the alliance that angered MD to the point where members were openly begging for war on private boards was not any we had expected to have problems with. SoL, who in the previous reset had been a LDP ally, decided to prove to their members the folly of top feeding and left several alliances totally unpacted. MD was one of these alliances and within 3 weeks of the start of the reset we were receiving at least one SoL top feed per a day, often on the same few countries. Early attempts to contact SoL about these hits were bogged down by internal problems within SoL, Daxit; SoL’s foreign relations head was away with a medical emergency and no solution had offered itself in nearly a week. This combined with a very high amount of animosity towards the SoL top feeders led the heads to the decision that MD would settle this dispute at the edge of a knife, red alert was issued and MD prepared for war.
The FS took place on September 21st at 11am GT time, after a frenzied race to complete the target list ( Kharn was away due to a family emergency) MD landed the first blows. The AT War Declaration can be found Here. It was commonly thought that MD would die a quick death to the legendary SoL war machine; it was with this in mind that we went to war regardless. Maintaining the protection of our tag despite all odds was seen as a higher priority then Netgaining in the face of topfeeding. Here are the 24-hour warstats: Alliance Breakdown:
| SOL | MD | |
|---|---|---|
| Top 100 | 0 | 2 |
| Top 500 | 0 | 31 |
| Top 1000 | 12 | 50 |
| Tagged Restarts | 6 | 5 |
| Total Alive | 183 | 115 |
| Total Dead | 25 | 10 |
| Attacker | Defender | Attacks | Kills |
|---|---|---|---|
| SOLer | xMDx | 2490 | 8 |
| xMDx | SOLer | 5427 | 24 |
MD had come off the FS with a 98% participation rate, which came as a large surprise to members and leaders alike due to unimpressive war drills in the previous set. The membership was jubilant and the war chat was a source of great entertainment. MD had proven to itself and the rest of earth that it was well and truly back to play.
In the following days the situation looked more bleak for SoL, MD maintained its hitting ratio and concerntrated on SoL’s now dwindling topranking countries, within 3 days their top 600 was relatively void with the loss of less then a third of MD’s top 500. We had also managed to fool SoL into thinking that we were slowing down our hits when in reality we were saving more turns every day for a second strike to take place on the 28th of September, the Sunday following the FS. This second FS however was not to take place. ARROW, a long-time ally of SoL’s FS’d MD (24th of sept). The reasons surrounding this are sketchy at best. SoL already had an 80 member advantage over MD yet called in a extra 280 ARROW countries. It can only be concluded that SoL leadership did not wish to risk a loss to MD, a loss that would smash the common belief that SoL were the greatest fighting alliance remaining in earth. Earth wide this ARROW intervention was heralded as an act of cowardice on SoL’s behalf, SoL leadership countered by simply saying earth was a game of politics. In the Arrow FS MD’s ability to make war was totally decimated, with odds now 5:1 and it was clear that this war was now over. While it may appear that in reality MD was beaten in fact the opposite had occurred, we had entered the war not to win by tag killing SoL but to show them and the rest of the earth community that we wouldn’t tolerate blatant topfeeding; in this regard our set had been a complete success. Arrow had joined the war expecting us to call in allies, it was for this very reason that we didn’t, we had proven our point to SoL and there was no need to pummel their ally Arrow and give them the war they had tried to start.
Several days after this event a second FS on MD occurred, this time by a bot. SoL and ARROW immediately cease fired on MD and in a stunning turn of events SoL started hitting the bots alongside surviving MD countries. This caused a great deal of fun as both sides took part in joint war chats. Coupled with the assistance of the “Robin Hood” bot all countries hitting MD were destroyed in a matter of days. With only a week or so remaining in the set we opted to just netgain as we saw fit, with several members having landraces amongst each other and generally just having the most fun we could with our second or even third countries. With the twilight of the set before us elections once again took place. Daren, as he had stated before being elected, did not run again for presidency although if he had a win would have been almost assured. Two main contenders emerged to fight it out for the presidency, Uber Bu and Maverick. Havoc also ran for election and provided some of the most memorable election answers produced in a long time, much to the entertainment of the veteran core. Alas the bulk of votes were divided between Maverick and Uber Bu, the election was once again very tight, much like the previous set. In the end Uber Bu emerged victorious, plans for the next set began immediately.....
