Origins of the Coalition
The creation of The Ivy League was initiated by Moral Decay. At the time MD was one of the top alliances in the game, but seemed to be unable to surpass it's direct competitor SoF, whom was in it's prime at the time. MD and SoF were very close allies and it was not in MD's interest to directly confront SoF for server dominance as SoF was deemed too useful as an ally. So MD started looking for a way to increase it's influence and strength and decided a coalition would be a very good way to accomplish this. Looking in the past MDs participation in The Sovereign Alliances coalition was a positive impulse in MD's power. However from past experiences it was known that every coalition gave rise to an anti-coalition, however this was something MD figured they could use to their advantage to accomplish their goal of becoming the best. So MD started to look to create a public coalition and wanted the coalition to be outward aggressive in their moves so that the anti-coalition would form quickly. The idea was for MD to increase it's strength and influence through the coalition and when the coalition neared destruction by the anti-coalition MD would take it's close ally The Omega and abandon the coalition and try to ensure it would avoid the anti-coalition firepower. In the end MD would be in a position to take control of the server if it managed to pull this off, or so was the idea. Realizing that this would not be a very popular idea if our allied friends found out our intent, it was decided to keep this information very limited, even within MD's heads team.
So MD started to approach several alliances, such as SoF, Omega and PDM. the idea for a coalition was quickly accepted by those alliances and SoF had no trouble in the coalition being outwardly aggressive, which worked to MD's favor. TIL would be a defensive coalition as alliances such as The Omega would not join a offensive coalition, but by implementing coalition wide policies the ability was there to be outward aggressive without directly gang banging alliances, which was not a smart move in general anyway. Several other alliances were approached, PDM insisted that IX would join TIL, though MD was somewhat hesitant as MD and IX did not get along that well. Though in the end MD agreed as IX was a more aggressive alliance which would be useful. In the end a very powerful coalition block was formed. Because TIL wanted to be a public coalition we needed a spokesperson, MD ensured it would not be this spokesperson to avoid drawing too much attention to itself in that regard, SoF and IX probably figured the same and so Comwood was appointed as spokesperson for TIL. This gave TIL it's voice to the outside world.
Early in it's existence RD decided to try out TIL's resolve by attacking The Omega. RD hoped that all of TIL would respond and help out The Omega, but most alliances within TIL saw no need to take on RD as it defeated the purpose of the coalition and would most likely lead to massive bot attacks. So it was decided to let Omega die, which was not an easy choice as Omega was a close ally to various of the TIL alliances. Luckily Omega itself also realized the futility of attacking RD and also agreed with the decision to let RD go unchallenged. The coalition survived this first attack onto it's foundation with relative ease, though at the expense of The Omega.
TIL continued it's first period of existence with relative easy and was a good tool for all alliances involved to increase it's strength and influence. However internal events within MD would have catastrophic consequences for MD's involvement in the coalition, it's sitting president was removed from office and banned from MD and it's previous president left MD due to the same event as well. This event would leave MD with new leadership. This new leadership had no idea about why TIL was created and what exact role MD was playing in that coalition. Eventually the anti-coalition succeeded in destroying TIL, but unlike planned MD was still residing in the coalition and suffered a crippling blow due to the destruction of TIL and MD's influence was severely reduced, making the coalition a fiasco in every way possible for MD. Instead of MD being in a position to dominate MD was severely weakened and would need resets to recover.
