Rook is a former Swirve moderator, co-founder of The Omega, and former Minister of Strategy & Training. His first name is Andrew. He lives in Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i, where he works as a helicopter pilot.

Early Earth and Founding of The Omega, 1997-1999
Rook started playing Earth: 2025 in 1997, while in high school in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, under the name of Mr. Niphty. He introduced it to a friend, who played under the name of Castejon. (The two remain good friends to this day.) Both played with between one and five accounts apiece during a time in the early days of Earth when multiple accounts were in common use. Niphty was discovered running multis and became involved in a debate with Mehul Patel on the public boards. He had a vivid reaction to being exposed, coming out of the experience with a strong anti-cheating stance. At a time when Castejon was getting involved with alliance operations in the Universal Brotherhood of Nations (UBN), the two went to work creating an alliance to excel at netgaining and to oppose large scale multi-runners, the most notable group of whom were RD. Taking a faction of UBN, they formed a new alliance, which Rook named The Omega. It was the first alliance to oppose cheating.

Castejon and Mr. Niphty had a falling out early in Omega's first reset, and Castejon left the alliance with Mr. Niphty in charge. (Castejon would go on to help found LCN.) Omega's open recruitment through the Solarianet forums was effective, but had the unpleasant side effect of peppering the alliance with spies. The netgaining potential of the alliance's first roster in November 1998 was not liked by the establishment, particularly leaders involved or associated with RD, who also resented Omega's anti-cheating stance.

LaF and RoCK were the most hostile to the nascency of The Omega, forcing harshly inequitable landgrabbing arrangements out of Mr. Niphty's desire to keep the newborn alliance in a state of peace. Out of frustration at the diplomatic pigeonhole he found himself in, the young Niphty made a post on RoCK's public forum telling them to do a certain thing to a certain part of the male anatomy. This was all the pretense necessary for the war Omega's opponents wanted. The ensuing attack was a slaughter, and many Omegans (including most of the spies) left the alliance, reducing it to a faithful core of about a third of its initial size. Niphty remained in Omega as a semi-active regular member for a short while after being ousted from leadership due to the lack of confidence resulting from the alliance's rocky start. He then worked with the Earth News Network as a Senior Editor before retiring his name and taking a brief hiatus from Earth activities. Upon his return he adopted his permanent name of Rook.

General Talk and Moderator, 1999-2004
Effectively retiring from gameplay for several years, Rook became a regular participant in discussions on Earth General Talk (EGT). During that forum's golden age, civil and constructive debates on metaphysics, ethics, and philosophy of religion frequently spilled over the 100 post thread cap and spanned several threads. EGT customarily ran a full cycle through the visible thread limit of 100 threads in two to three days without spam, but without a regular mod presence, it was susceptible to spam attacks. When coordinated spam attacks by patrons of Utopia General Talk began wiping EGT clean of its intriguing, multi-thread discussions, it became clear that the board needed a native moderator. Rook began moderating, but under a separate name -- so as not to create an overt mod presence and influence the tenor of discussion on the lightly moderated forum.

Later Earth and Retirement, 2004-Present
Rook rejoined The Omega in 2004, reacquainting himself with the game on the forums of which he had posted for years, but hadn't played. After quietly settling into the rhythm of his old alliance for several resets, he followed a natural inclination to experimentation and began working on techer, farmer, and MBR strategies. As Minister of Strategy and Training, Rook created a mentoring and strategy development system that functioned thoroughly and efficiently for the alliance's size of 120-125 members, and worked as part of an excellent team effort to guide Omega through its 10K FS on Steel in 2004. Much of his MBR work was theoretical and involved a great deal of number crunching, but the practical aspects of it were translated into a team ("Ascension") created for the purposes of comparing strategies. Considerable gearhead work was also done during this period by Tafkas, Iccyh, and Reuben. Rook was very active in these roles until moving to New York in 2005, then Hawai'i in 2006, at which point he retired from active gameplay to focus on flying and spending time at the beach.

Rook still occasionally posts at The Omega and entertains a fondness for lurking about the various Earth boards. His alma mater is the University of Florida, his favorite drink is the bloody mary, and he has nothing against vegemite.
Ragnarok was the oldest tag in the game of Earth: 2025.

The following is the history of Ragnarok, as written by Peregrine.

Chapter One
----

Reset One: December 1996

Ragnarok was founded in the first reset of Earth. Twelve "founding members" got together and a member from Finland chose our name. As was usual in the first few resets a war broke out with RoCK. Ragnarok was allied to TGA, COP, and TAC this reset. With the lack of game databases and such people had to guess membership alliances and lists were made up.

Chapter 2: The First Alliance Tag
----

Yup, Ragnarok was the first alliance to use a tag in game (there were no clans back then). All members of Ragnarok were required to have @'s in their name instead of A's. Again another war broke out with RoCK and the same alliances were involved. Ragnarok and TGA utilized the COW (Cash On Wheels) strategy, where countries passed their militaries to each other to attack with and take down large countries. Remember there was no killing in the early resets and the winning alliance basically had the most landgrabs.

Chapter 3: SoC vs Ragnarok
----

This reset was the first where alliance politics became a major factor in the game. Prevailor came to power as Ragnarok's diplomatic voice and "1e" was used as the tag. This time war broke out between Ragnarok and SoC. The fight was bitter and most countries were destroyed except for a few run by Tod of SoC (people ran multies instead of the bots in these days). Force (a division of RoCK) joined the fight on SoC's side and TGA countered for Ragnarok.

Prevailor retired due to family reasons, and Peregrin joined Ragnarok.

Chapter 4: Attack of the Dons downed by Krazy Ed
----

At this point there were 2 "standard" servers, but the major event of the era is the rise of the group that would become LaF. Several skilled netgainers got together and dominated the top 20 calling themselves the "Dons". They landgrabbed everyone, spied on their in game allies and then grabbed them as well. As can be expected this pissed off a lot of people. As a result the group that eventually become RoCKFamily began to come together. Ragnarok along with TGA, Force and Axis (RoCK associated alliances), and SoC counter attacked. The attack was lead by "Krazy Ed" a person known for making deals buying and selling military. He was a RoCK member used to fire the first shot in the fight. The sheer numbers destroyed the Dons but they would be back.

Chapter 5: TJA comes together
----

At this point many of the original members of Ragnarok began to stop playing and we were keeping ourselves going with 10-20 members (This is when the popular earth community thinks Rag and TGA merged). That was still strong enough to have an effect as TGA was attacked by Army, Red, and GP. Ragnarok counter attacked with TGA and Axis and helped wipe out the offenders. This would make them extremely pissed and would set up the repeat wars that were to follow.

Chapter 6: TJA vs RockFamily
----

The next 2 resets would be Ragnarok's thinnest. 6 members for each reset. This reset would feature a server war between TJA and what would become RoCKFamily. TJA was a group of alliances committed to the destruction of TGA (or so their website said). Their alliances included the likes of HAN, Army, Red, EoS, LaF, OOA, GP, and LSA. On the other side were Ragnarok, TGA, SoC, RoCK, and UCN. Despite the difference in the number of alliances the membership counts were about the same. War broke out when HAN and TGA started going at it and brought Ragnarok into the fight by attacking us unprovoked. This brought everyone else into the fight. At this point LaF used their ace in the hole. They planted a spy (Jyri) in RoCK early in the reset. He left RoCK at that point taking about 20 countries with him. This was enough to turn the war. Every alliance was destroyed except for LaF. On a personal note this was the war where I had my semi famous (well to my friends at stony brook anyway) bombing run of Blue Pigs Flying Over Hawaii (Top 10 country) from my obliterated 1200 rank country (that was REALLY low back then). It would be LaF's only straight up win against RoCK that I can remember anyway.

Chapter 6 cont: RoCK's Revenge
----

This reset opened with SoC merging with TGA and TGA declaring a no land grab policy, TGA would not land grab anyone but anyone that hit them would be raped. SOL would become an official alliance separating from UCN. Also a little division was formed in TGA called ORN. HAN left its alliance with LaF and switched sides to ally with RoCK. EoS formed an alliance with TGA because they used to be an SoC division. HAN and EoS got in a war early in the reset and RoCK and TGA found itself on opposing sides. After a few days of fighting peace was made. A few days later a new alliance called Omega and their leader named Mr Niphty began toying with RoCK. (Inaccurate: The Omega, as a new alliance, lacked the leverage to toy with other alliances, and for this reason was pigeonholed into inequitable landgrabbing arrangements with LaF and RoCK. See Founding of The Omega.) After Niphty posted a really nasty message on RoCK's message board under an assumed name, war was declared. Back then there were no GS kills so it was basically a landgrab war. RoCK beat the hell (I usually dont write this one sided but I'm really understating the result here) out of Omega and they became allies after. This would set up the main war of the reset. A repeat of Chapter 6 except this time the RoCKFamily side would meticulously plan the war almost down to the attacks. War would break out and everything would pretty much go to plan until OOA decided to enter the war with 50+ countries. All there was in their way were 15 ORN countries, 6 Ragnarok Countries, and 8 Omega restarts. Lucky for us the main alliance server (d2fl) crashed that day and threw OOA's battle coordination into disarray. Even luckier I had laid out the battle plan in email (hey we were primitive back then) our plan was executed and the battle was won (land kills were all you could do back then). Obsidian was kind enough to help us by sending an ingame message to me cursing us out and getting his 8 countries deleted (about the only circumstances where multies were deleted back then).

Chapter 7: Revitalization
----

At the start of this reset TGA continued with their no landgrab policy. ORN division and a few other members (myself, Paygan, DIStopia, Beldin, Gator, our lovable Slug, and a couple others) decided to leave the no land grab policy and come to Ragnarok to give Horker and dhampir some company. This brought Ragnarok back up to around 60 countries with 30 people playing them. Ragnarok and TGA officially became "Sister Alliances" at this point. RoCKFamily would also become an official coalition containing TGA, RoCK, UCN, SOL, and Omega. MD would also appear in this reset coming over from their MUD game. Ragnarok had early disputes with SOL and MD in this reset over landgrabs but negotiated settlements were reached. Later in the reset the usual war between the LaF group and the RoCK group broke out. This time MD and RoCK fought it out using AB's to flatten each other until peace was made. Omega fought LaF. UCN fought EoS (i think), SOL fought TIE (again not sure on this one) and TGA was somehow left alone to beat up on everyone. That left Ragnarok to fight a new alliance called Rage. War was declared after Sugar pretty much begged Rage not to enter the war. Peace was declared a few days later as it was seen there was no one to protect Rage from us while they were hitting other alliances in RoCKFamily. After that we settled in to netgain for the rest of the reset, at that point UCN was kicked out of RoCKFamily after doing such things as threatening Ragnarok if we were to attack LaF even though there were no plans to (thanks Finny).

Chapter 8: World War III
----

This reset would feature a ton of craziness. The first war Ragnarok fought this reset was with LaF after a land grab dispute. Ragnarok and DoA made a hopeless attack on LaF who outnumbered and outnetgained the two alliances. However during the strike on LaF, a Rage member sent a nasty .wav file to Horker and he went off on the Rage country. After peace was made with LaF, Rage attacked Ragnarok. Ragnarok called in its FDP's and TGA, RoCK, and TIE participated in the counter attack. This brought the whole LaF side into the fight and the world war was on. Multi allegations flew at Ragnarok after Anthony Ciolli hacked our website, but we hung together after we found out Rage was also made up 48 countries run by 15 people also. Being at the bottom of the dogpile, Rage and Ragnarok were pretty much wiped out. In the overall fight TGA and company did win the day thanks in large part to HAN's 300 or so countries.

Chapter 9: Ragnarok makes a friend
----

Those 300 HAN countries would turn out to be the nemesis the next reset. As war broke out between SOL and HAN SOL was outnumbered around 2.5:1. This reset SOL created a new coalition called The Soverign Alliances (TSA). However most alliances there and in the traditional RoCKFamily friends were allied to both sides. Only Ragnarok was not allied to HAN because they wanted to landgrab us. When SOL asked if allies would join them, Ragnarok answered the call. Still with the combined numbers Ragnarok and SOL were outnumbered 2:1 and guerilla strike kills were a lot more effective in those days (minimum civ loss was 25, not 5). Luckily HAN apparently did not realize Ragnarok had entered the war until it was too late(they were large but very uncoordinated). After countless war rooms pursuing what we thought was a suicide mission, Ragnarok and SOL managed to tag kill HAN (ok ok there were no tags but you get the picture). It was this reset that famous names such as Kodiak and our lovable Ruth1ess joined up mid reset following a guy called Wildman to our alliance.

Chapter 10: The fastest war in Ragnarok History
----

The reset after the HAN war brought Ragnarok close to SOL and the new alliances of the TSA. The Sky Elitez especially became very good friends due to DIStopia's diplomacy work. This reset brought about a annoyance with the name of Pat O'conner (affectionately known as Patricia in Ragnarok history), the leader of the WoG alliance. They had 15 countries, but most of the belligerance was done on our RoCKCorps message board (what would become gamerstown). War was eventually declared but for some reason they did not attack. Ragnarok's counterstrike tag killed all of them within 12 hours.

Chapter 11: Cult War
----

This reset brought a war with the Cult. The usual land grab dispute was the cause of the war. The Cult launched their first strike against Ragnarok and the Sky Elitez participated in the counter attack. I don't remember many of the details of this war but Sky and Ragnarok outnumbered them pretty good and had the upper hand until the end of the reset.

Chapter 12: Finny Feels the Pain
----

At this point Dissy and Myself are pretty much co-leading. Fingolfin had been playing strong arm alliance politics (much as he was before RD killed UCN) for a while and people were not happy about it. RoCK, TGA and TIE had about enough of him and were looking to go to war with UCN under the slightest provocation. As it turned out UCN was land grabbing Ragnarok a little too much. The attack plan was devised and Ragnarok, RoCK, TGA, and TIE all declared war and attacked at the same time. As can be expected UCN didn't last very long though we were kill restarts through to the end of the reset.

Chapter 13: War With SoF
----

This was one of SoF's early resets. One our members (I forgot his name, was one of fester's friends), really screwed up reporting the news and we ended up in a war with SoF, we couldn't even find out what happened because he ended up in jail the next day. Yes we had a jail bird in Ragnarok. Anyway we went with a lot of AB's on their larger countries while they went with GS's (this was when the GS min was reduced to 5 so there was debate about which attack was better). They had larger countries and probably would have won the war had it gone to the end of the reset but peace was declared after we called in FDP with SOL (they attacked us).

Niphty remained in Omega as a semi-active regular member for a short while thereafter, until being ousted from leadership due to the lack of confidence resulting from the alliance's rocky start.

While Omega prefers to netgain peacefully, Omegans will defend their allies and have strongly defended themselves when it comes down to it. Omegans are notably tenacious fighters, and the alliance enjoys a high activity rate in war. With its dedicated membership, high skill level, and many years of experience, the alliance has achieved many impressive war victories.
History
Background
The Omega was formed in fall 1998 as a group of elite non-cheating netgainers by Mr. Niphty and Castejon. Many people mark the game with Pre-Omega and Post-Omega, in that before The Omega came, tags did not exist. The Omega was bound to make great change and they did with a strong anti-cheating stance. After a split between Mr. Niphty and Castejon, Mr. Niphty led the Omega and The Omega found itself at war with RoCK. Quickly humbled, Jer Bu stepped up to lead the Omega and befriended RoCK and joined the Rockfamily. Jer Bu soon stepped down and leadership of the Omega was turned over to a trio of Tafkas, Josie and Ench. <br>
Later on, they would come to fight RoCK in wars, as they stood by the alliance Moral Decay whom they had allied with. This began a long term friendship that lasts to this day. Early in The Omega's history, during the Tiger reset, the Survival of the Fittest SoF broke off from The Omega. At this point Tafkas retired from the Omega and leadership was in the hands of Josie and Ench.
This break with SoF resulted in tension between the two alliances, but they later became friends and allies. Omega was decidedly a netgaining alliance, yet its early years were beset with a seemingly endless succession of wars. She was destined to be a netgaining alliance, however, and eventually took her proper place at that table.

The Omega's Migration to the Earth Council Server
Shortly after Earth Council came into existance, The Omega made the painful choice to move to the new server and to escape the cheaters that had long ruined the Alliance Server and very nearly brought The Omega to its knees. The move was intended to give a new start in a cleaner environment.

The Omega's Impact on Other Servers
Molson founded The Silver Omega on the Limited Server of Earth:2025. Omegans and non-Omegans from the alliance server alike played there for a number of years.
Our Mission
La Cosa Nostra is a clan on the Alliance server that aims to provide a friendly gaming environment for it's members.
We seek excellence in netgaining and both warfare. We protect our members and our allies. We seek growth in ability
and relationship and strive to get the best out of our family.

Expectations
Members have a responsibility to place this alliance first and foremost before individual pursuits and personal gains.
Members have a responsibility to uphold the rules of this alliance and strive toward LCN’s goals as set forth by the leaders of LCN.
Members have a responsibility to contribute and participate in the direction of LCN’s mission of becoming the best alliance on the Council Server.
LCN is a family oriented alliance, and each member is to assist and to respect other members in their goal to accomplish LCN’s mission.

Some History
LCN started out of Tourney game G. There were 5-6 original members. Castejon, The Nihilist, Brink, Mad Hatter were definites. I believe Assassin and Ravioli were also original, but they would need to confirm.

LCN was named by The Nihilist. Caste and Nihilist rode the same bus to high school in Ponte Vedra, Florida. History always gives The Nihilist a bum deal.

LCN as 11th was started in our first set, and became undeniable fact in our second set. To this day, LCN is the 11th best alliance in the game. Someday I may come back and expound on that.

LCN joined RoCKFamily in our second set.

The great LCN/HAN wars.

(SO I just typed up a ton of old stuff, and this site didn't take it, and it was lost. I am stopping here, if this takes, maybe I will come back and flesh it out more)

Involved in the LCN/Fist/Omega vs ImagNum/SoL war of June 2010.
