Republic is one of eight governments. The republic government is often used for all-explore countries.

Bonuses and penalties

+20% explore rate

The republic government explores for 20% more acres per turn on average than other governments. Instead of the standard minimum exploring rate of 6, republics have a minimum rate of 7. Republics also have an initial exploring rate of 48 instead of 40.

+20% maximum per capita income

Republics have a 20% higher maximum PCI over other governments. However, PCI grows and declines at the same rate for other governments.

-10% military strength

Republics suffer a 10% penalty on offense and defense. Therefore, republics will have to pay more in military expenses and attacking costs to keep the same military strength as other governments.

Common strategies

Republic is an excellent fit for the casher strategy and a good fit for most other all-X strategies, including techer and farmer.

Other uses

Republic is sometimes used for all explore phases of a strategy. While the country explores it plays as a republic to get more land than other strategies. After the exploring phase is over, it switches governments to one more appropriate for stockpiling or attacking.

The republic strategy is not preferred for war because of the -10% military strength penalty.
