The democracy is one of eight governments. Democracies are commonly used for stocking, destocking, and playing the market.

Bonuses and penalties

+10% Maximum technology

The increase in tech maximum is applied to the difference between maximum tech and base tech. For example, the maximum percentage for agri tech as a democracy is 243% : 100% + (1.1 * (230% - 100%)) = 243%.

No market commissions

Instead of the standard 6% commissions for the public market, democracies enjoy paying no commissions for buying or selling goods on the public market. Zero market commissions allow players to resell on the public market more effectively. In addition, players get to keep a larger percentage of money received for goods sold on the public market.

3 turns required to attack

Instead of the standard 2 turns required per attack, democracies must spend three attacks per attack. This greatly increases the opportunity cost for landgrabbing and decreases the maximum number of attacks which can be done per day.

Common strategies

The best fits for the democracy government are strategies which do not offer a government with a large production bonus and which either need lots of tech or require constant use of the public market. For example, the oiler strategy is usually not played as a democracy because there is no tech to increase oil rig production and players would have to give up the 75% fascism oil bonus. The casher strategy may be a good choice because it gets the highest percentage of its income from tech and players only have to give up the 20% PCI bonus.

Other strategies commonly played as democracy include farmer, techer, and military base reseller.

Other uses

Due to the attack penalty, Democracy is not commonly used for war or growth. Typically the Democratic government is used to take advantage of better market prices for stocking and destocking after growth phases have been completed.
