History

Earth: 2025

Rising from the ashes of the short-lived Bloodlust clan, Crown of Thorns was the creation of Elevated Fly in response to Bloodlust's leadership, constantly running the clan into annihilation. Crown of Thorns began as two members from Bloodlust and they quickly recruited several others, growing from a clan of ~20 countries to over 50 in the first reset alone. Early on, most members only played 5-10 countries out of the 15 allowable on the FFA server. Steady growth continued, and the clan emerged with nearly 250 countries and over 30 active members at the end of the final set of FFA. With an additional membership expansion, Crown of Thorns would have been over 300 legitimate countries if the FFA server had continued one more set.

Upon the closing of the Free-For-All Server in June 2006, Crown of Thorns moved to the Earth Council server.

Crown of Thorns was founded on the following principles:

The Crown of Thorns alliance believes in the power of words. Be thou wary, if words fail we will not be afraid to grasp the sword of fury and consume those who oppose us. Dignity and honour will be our companions in the journey; diplomacy and justice, perseverance and valour our shield. We are united; we are undaunted; we are the Crown of Thorns.

We appreciate honour and loyalty. Fair play and good behaviour are the grounds for this alliance. The Thorns oath of courtesy requires our members to remain calm and to refrain from insulting others. They shall not be questioned for their objectivity and honour. We will always treat our enemies with respect. Thorns members have pledged to maintain dignity and honour when they conduct negotiations or have any form of communication, with the enemy or otherwise. We will not partake in newbie bashing. All players in this game are treated as equals. We reserve the right to refuse admission without supplying a reason. This is done strictly at the discretion of Alliance Command. If you are not accepted you are always free to re-apply.

Accomplishments & History

Crown of Thorns have warred twice on the FFA Server since their inception in the spring of 2005: once with Red Alert, and once with Guards of Hell. The Guards' FS hit CoT heavy in the upper networths and they were never able to regain control of the war. They maintained superiority below the 2M networth threshold, thus the conflict was considered a draw. In the final set of FFA on Earth: 2025, The Thorns ranked in the top 15 Average Networth, and ended the set with the Second Place in Total Networth.

Thorns warred almost every set of the Earth User-Managed/Council server. They utterly destroyed the clan NaZ run by the infamous RRLFAN21, causing them to disband. During the next set, Thorns defended a pacted alliance and was backstabbed by their ally Asylum of Dark Templars (AoDT). This resulted in 3 clans, ZT, Poetic Justice, and WoG, teaming together to nearly destory Thorns. Despite the odds (160+ vs. 30), Thorns was never tag killed and several original countries survived until the end of the set.

During the December 2006 set, Thorns exacted their revenge on the back-stabbers of AoDT. AoDT had broke several pacts and declared war on CoT's allies, Netters Anonymous (NA), causing Thorns UNAP to AoDT to be nullified. Thorns joined into the fray and destroyed 5 AoDT countries in the first several days, only to be attacked by another alliance, The Devils Rejects (TDR). TDR activity dropped while Thorns activity began to surge. TDR was then attacked by NA for attacking Thorns, to allow Thorns to go back to hitting AoDT. In all, Thorns killed over 30 AoDT and TDR countries. After the war, (which didn't end until the set was over), TDR left the Council Server and went to play on the Limited Server.

The set after that, Thorns decided to have a war set. They first declared war upon Real Estate Developers for their farming of a Thorns country. Thorns, with 26 tagged countries, destroyed 14 RED countries in the First Strike. Most of the remaining RED countries de-tagged and went to Thorns' allies Monks. They also surrendered, but as no contact was actually made with any Thorns leaders, it was never considered official. A few RED restarts remained in the tag, acting as minor annoyances during the war with Justice (see below) and getting a total of 1 kill. Thorns had caused RED to officially disband.

After Thorns' destruction of RED, they declared war on Justice. Justice members felt that Thorns had no good reason to FS them, although Justice had farmed Thorns earlier in the set without even attempting to make a contact. They were also one of the clans gang-banging Thorns (when they fought WoG-ZT-Justice). However, Justice's leadership had completely changed since that time. Either way, Thorns killed 12 of 20 countries in the FS. By the end of the set, Thorns had killed ~45 Justice and RED countries, while RED and Justice had killed 11 Thorns countries (almost all restarts).

The next set, a few important members, Griffin and ZenebaS, left to other clans for the reset (SOL and iMag, respectively), and Thorns attempted to have a netgaining set for its first time in the Council Server. After hearing through the grapevine that they were about to be FSed by the much larger SancTuarY, (and believing they had no chance of winning an actual war), they pre-emptively FSed SancT with a laughable 'AB FS'. SancT performed poorly however, and it took nearly a week for them to kill Thorns despite it being a SancT war set (There were twice as many SancT countries as Thorns had from the the set Thorns demolished RED). It was well-believed that SancT should have tag killed Thorns within 24 hours or less. Thorns surrendered, and went on with peaceful netgaining for the rest of the set.

In the May-June 2007 reset Thorns resumed netting. They finished #13th place in both Total and Average Networth. They had several countries with very low networths, but constructed a Foreign Aid chain that resulted in one country finishing #11 on the server (Bohica #1125: 113,348,306NW - 16,260 Acres). A very successful netting set for some of the members, but an educational experience for many others.

Crown of Thorns merged into Netters Anonymous in August 2007.
