In the Devils Advocates' first reset, they quickly went from an elite netgaining alliance of around 30 members to a rapid decline, due to inactive leadership by Kaz, Strider and others.
After electing Spektyr to presidency, with Beltshumeltz as advisor and vice-president, they quickly rebuilt and recruited a lot of new members.
They had, however, lost many top countries and had next to no tag protection. A war was seen as a solution to give the reset a certain purpose, and an oportunity presented itself when trouble brew between DA and the semi-spam tag SWORD.
DA had about 70 members, and SWORD about 100. SWORD had indeed played the previous reset and had a website, so it is unsure to what level they were organized.
Beltz proposed that propaganda be used to make SWORD members defect or desert, to great success thanks to Spektyr's writing skills. The both of them met on ICQ, with Spektyr renaming himself to "Diablo", the name of the SWORD president. They pretended to hold an official foreign affairs discussion to put an end to the war which was made to look very favorable to Beltshumeltz and DA. Diablo was falsely presented as a cheater and self-promoter who did not care about what happened to his members during that war.
The message was then distributed to Diablo members, and many of them left SWORD immediately. This alone dropped their membership to about 50. The rest of them did not show too much organization, although they did do some attempted kill runs and some dispersed attacks.
Eventually, DA killed most of the remaining countries and obtained a complete decisive victory.
