[edit] Vandalism
As the popularity of EartherWiki grows, so will the number of vandals. You can help reduce vandalism by looking at the recent changes page and checking for suspicious edits. [edit] What is not Vandalism
* Articles not written from a neutral-point-of-view. These articles should be marked with Template:NPOV, and if a new user posted them, add Template:NPOVuser to their talk page to welcome them and inform them of our NPOV policy.
* Edit Tests by new users. These often take the from of adding the word test to the bottom of a page. These can be reverted, and the new user welcomed. We will be importing a new template for welcoming new users soon.
* Edit wars between proponents of different versions of an article. These should be resolved on the articles talk page.
[edit] What is Vandalism
* Minor Vandalism: vandals adding the word PENIS to the bottom of each page or something similar. These can be reverted, and the user should be warned. We will have a template for warning minor vandals, and inviting them to contribute constructivly to EartherWiki.
* Major Vandalism: This includes adding rascist/hateful content, or trolling by writing articles in which such statements masquerade as legitimate content. These vandals should be issued a stronger warning, and if they persist in vandalising after being warned, they should be reported to a sysop (use our talk pages) for possible blocking.
[edit] Summary: If you see Vandalism [edit] 'Vanity' Guidelines
In response to some concerns over the quality of some of the articles in the notable earther's section, I want to suggest some guidelines for so called vanity pages. These guidelines are subject to discussion and modification. [edit] What is Vanity Information
Vanity information may take the form of an entire article(Vanity article) or may simply be a part of an article (Vanity information). Vanity information can usually be identified by the tone of its author.
From Wikipedia: "Vanity information is considered to be any information that was placed in any Wikipedia article that might create an apparent conflict of interest, meaning any material that presents the appearance of being intended to in any way promote the personal notoriety of the author, or one of the close family members or associates of the author." See the Wikipedia Vanity guidelines for further information. [edit] What to do about Vanity Information
Vanity info in EartherWiki often takes the form of articles in the Notable Earthers. These articles contain complete Earth biographies, but give no indication of the importance of the subject. In this case, the vanity information/article should be moved to the subject's User page. A link to the subject's User page can be placed in article along the lines of: "For the complete Earth Biography of this person, visit their User page."
The Notable Earther's article should be edited to remove unimportant information, and to answer above all the question "What makes this person a Notable Earther?" This article should be written from a completely neutral point of view.
Alliance pages will also no doubt also contain vanity information, and this should also be minimized. [edit] Image Uploads
Please upload and display in articles any images that:
* Are not duplicated by a previously uploaded image * Depict something of importance in Earth * Depict something which cannot easily be explained in words * Are not vanity images as described above
[edit] Links to Images Hosted Offsite
These should now be removed. If an image previously hosted offsite fits the criteria above, than upload it. Forum Sig images should be removied (see vanity information, above)
