Talk:Cruise Missile
The returns for a cruise missile are based on the attacker's military units and the defender's military units and readiness. Military Strategy technology and government modifiers do not affect the returns. The probability that the missile strike will succeed is based on the defender's SDI percentage. If successful, the missile will do damage according to the following formulas:
spies killed = ROUND(MIN(0.03*attacker_spies, 0.01*defender_spies))
troops killed = ROUND(MIN(0.03*attacker_troops, 0.01*defender_troops))
jets killed = ROUND(MIN(0.03*attacker_jets, 0.01*defender_jets))
turrets killed = ROUND(MIN(0.03*attacker_turrets, 0.01*defender_turrets))
tanks killed = ROUND(MIN(0.03*attacker_tanks, 0.01*defender_tanks))
new defender readiness = round(0.981*old_defender_readiness)
Expressed in words, if the attacker has enough military units, the missile will destroy 1% of the defender's military. If the attacker does not have enough relative military to get maximum returns, the missile will only destroy 3% of the attacker's military. All five military types are treated separately. In addition, the cruise missile can lower readiness. If the defender's readiness is between 79% to 100%, the defender readiness is reduced by 2%. If the defender's readiness is between 27% to 78%, the defender readiness is reduced by 1%. Finally, if the defender's readiness is below 27% the cruise missile will not lower readiness further.
