User:General Earl/IRC tweaks

Note: This is not official IRC documentation, and is still a work in progress. It is incomplete and some information may be wrong!

Since Earth Empires has had its own IRC servers, people have constantly asked how to do things since they have usually migrated from GameSurge, and as we know, its completely different! For even myself, this has not been an easy transition. I'm still always learning little quirky methods of doing stuff. This isn't part of the official IRC services page because these instructions are more for my own reference, and I'd rather keep the official docs short, sweet and to the point. But if you really have to know.. here we go! I'll turn you into an IRC pro yet! Maybe.

Note: Please familiarize yourself with IRC services first!

Where's ChanServ and AuthServ?

  1. AuthServ is not used here. NickServ is. /msg nickserv help (or some people can use /ns help as a shortcut).
  2. ChanServ on EE is NOT like GS's ChanServ. ChanServ basically operates quietly in the background, however to mimic the functionality of a 'Channel Bot', we have BotServ. /msg botserv help (or /bs help). Theres plenty of names to choose from. /msg chanserv help, or /cs help will give you a full list of commands.

NickServ

Instructions are shown on the IRC services page. Its easy to setup, and does not require e-mail validation. You are required to be authorized by nickserv to use most other services. This will also protect other people from stealing your nick. Most IRC clients can be setup to automatically authorize you when you login.

ChanServ

Channel registration can be done by anyone registered with NickServ. You will need to do some reading on the IRC services page to get a basic setup.

Where's !addpeon or !clvl commands??

Access levels work quite differently. There's a whole slew of different commands for controlling things. !help in channel, or /cs help will give you a slew of commands. SOP is super-op, AOP is general OP. There's also a different HOP (Half-op) level. Voice and no-mode still work the same. However, I prefer access levels. Also, setting your channel(s) to use numeric-based levels (opposed to name-based levels) will allow you finer control over who can do what in your channel.

Turn off xOP

At first, only the channel founder will be able to do this.

!set xop off

Will allow you to start tweaking your channel.

Changing User Access Levels

!access add <yournick> 9999

Sets you on the access list to founder.

!access add <someone> <level>

Sets <someone> to <level>

!access del <someone>

Removes someone from the access list.

Access Level Permissions

This takes some forethought as to how you want to run your channel. The actual level numbers are arbitrary, so if you wanted to mimic GS levels (ie 500, 450, 200, etc), you could do it, however you need to be careful with the options you set.

Note: AUTODEOP and NOJOIN are maximum levels, all others are minimum levels. Use extreme caution where noted! Read help so you understand what each command does!

READ !help levels first
