Military Units
Each unit serves two general purposes: to wreck / kill a country and to protect a country.

Troops
Troops serve as both offensive and defensive battle units. While not very strong on either end, they are fairly cheap to buy and maintain. However, they are most vulnerable to covert attack. Troops need oil to attack as well.
Offense / Defense Power
1/1
Usefulness
Attack with SS, PS, GS and defend against GS.
Jets
These units serve as offensive-only military units. About twice as powerful as a regular troop on offense, they make a formidable attack weapon. However, they cannot defend and are vulnerable to covert bombings. These units provide the most offensive power for the dollar, but require oil to function.
Offense / Defense Power
2/0
Usefulness
Attack with SS, PS, or BR
Turrets
The counterpart to Jets, Turrets are defensive-only weapons about twice as powerful as the troop. While relatively expensive to buy and maintain, Turrets are protected from covert attack and are the best buy for the dollar for defense.
Offense / Defense Power
0/2
Usefulness
Defend against SS, PS, BR
Tanks
The tank is the most advanced general purpose military weapon of your army. About the equivalent of four troops, tanks can be used both on offense and defense. Their high maintenance costs are a potential drawback, but they are safe from covert action and thus are an excellent stabalizing force in your military. Tanks need oil to function on offense.
Offense / Defense Power
4/4
Usefulness
Attack and defend against SS, PS, AB
Spies
A strong Intelligence Agency is based upon having a large supply of spies. In general, the larger number of spies you are armed with relative to an opponent and relative to your size, the more successful your spy operations will be and the less successful enemies will be against you. Because of their nature, spies cannot be bought on the market -- they can only be trained in industrial complexes.
Offense / Defense Power
N/A
Usefulness
Defend/succeed against spy ops
Nuke
Launching a nuclear attack requires that you have discovered a nuclear missile. While all countries have a chance of producing a weapon each turn, technology can help to assist in developing more of these weapons. Launching a nuclear weapon will destroy a portion of your opponent's land. The only defense against this weapon is the SDI system, a product of technological development.
Chem
Similar to the Nuclear assault in terms of missile development and SDI protection, the chemical weapon focuses primarily on an enemy's population. While it also destroys some buildings, chemical weapons kill off a portion of an opponent's civilian population, reducing tax revenues until that population is rebuilt. This is the most easily developed missile technology.
Cruise Missile
The cruise missile is also called the EM missile for short to differentiate itself from the chemical missile when abbreviated in war chat topics(Both abbreviations are CM). Launching Cruise Missiles at an opponent's military installations is an effective way of destroying military of all types, as well as reducing your enemy's army readiness. These missiles can help soften up an enemy before invasion.
